A 10% Happier How-to Book
The host repeatedly highlighted that he co‑authored the New York Times bestseller with Jeff Warren, presenting it as a practical how‑to guide for people who struggle to sit still or stay focused, especially those with ADHD. He described the book’s purpose as a follow‑up to his earlier work, aiming to identify and overcome common obstacles to a meditation habit through a cross‑country road‑trip narrative. Listeners were encouraged to preorder the title, and the overall tone was enthusiastic and supportive, indicating a strong recommendation.
The book was co-authored by Jeff Warren and Dan Harris. It was a New York Times bestseller.

Paula Faris was featured prominently in this book as a significant character. The book's alternate title, which Paula disliked, was mentioned during the conversation.
If you read my most recent book Meditation for Figuity Skeptics, she was featured in there as a, as quite a prominent character.
By the way, you didn't use my alternate title for the book and I'm still upset about that.
The host and Jeff Warren chronicled their friendship in this co-authored book, detailing a cross-country bus trip they took to help people overcome obstacles to establishing a meditation practice.
We actually chronicled our friendship in a book we co-authored called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics
in which we took a Gonzo cross country bus trip to help people overcome various obstacles to establishing a meditation practice.
The host stated the goal of this second book was to motivate people to actually practice meditation by tapping into the brain's reward system.
then I just wrote a book called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and the goal of the second book was to get people to actually do the thing
Dan Harris mentioned this book in relation to an idea from his co-author about adopting a welcoming attitude toward one's inner critic, suggesting the mantra 'Welcome to the party.'
third idea is something I talked about in a book I wrote called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and it's an idea I took from my co-author Jeffrey Warren who talks about having a welcoming attitude toward your inner toward your neuroses toward the various inner characters who show up at the party sometimes in a rather obnoxious faction
This book was written to help readers establish the difficult habit of meditation by addressing obstacles and avoiding guilt spirals, featuring input from Jeff Warren.
I have a new book coming out soon and I this story is in the book in a in a big way actually by the time this post the book may already be out it's called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics available at find bookstore everywhere plug now done
So I wrote this the the most recent book that's uh um called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and and it's a the point was to help figure out what are the obstacles standing in the way of of doing this habit of establishing this habit that's manifestly really good for you
Dan Harris mentioned this new book he wrote, around which he was doing a series of podcast appearances in LA.
She came along with me because I was appearing on eight different podcasts as part of my orgy of self promotion around this new book I wrote called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics.
This new book was written along with two co-authors to address the difficulty of starting a meditation habit, which the author realized people struggled with after his first book. The goal of this book was to recount the story of a cross-country road trip taken to meet people who wanted to meditate but weren't, help readers overcome obstacles to starting the habit, and teach them how to meditate. It was scheduled for release on December 26th.
The book is called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics and it's all about my attempt to do what I kind of failed to do in my first book.
And so I've written this new book called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics with some co-authors including Jeff Warren, who's an amazing meditation teacher, was featured on the podcast two weeks ago.
And so the goal of the book is to tell you the story of this Gonzo road trip that we went on.
Anyway, so that book is out on December 26th in time for a new year, new you and back to my producers.
This new book was described as a follow-up to his first, focused on creating a thorough taxonomy of obstacles to meditation and offering systematic tips to overcome them. The book also featured a significant storyline involving the speaker's wife, Bianca, detailing her resistance to meditation and eventual change.
So you're going to hear me take a little bit of a beating from my wife, but you're also going to hear an incredibly smart and interesting person who has had a lot of stuff go on in her life and who lives with somebody's really into meditation and yet for years couldn't bring herself to do it.
So I decided to write a follow-up book in which I really do a thorough taxonomy, a thorough classification system of all the big obstacles to meditation.
The book is basically about the fact that I made this really in hindsight kind of dumb, cavalier assumption after I wrote my first book, 10% happier.
The host mentioned this was his new book, which was based on a cross-country road trip he took with Jeff Warren to help people overcome obstacles to meditating. The book systematically classified and listed obstacles to meditation and then tackled them one by one.
As you've heard me mentioned before, I've got a new book coming out. It's called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics.
The point of this next book is to systematically taxonomize, classify, list all of the obstacles to meditation such as I don't have time for this or it's going to make me lose my edge or I can't do it because my mind is too busy to make a clear list of these obstacles and then to tackle them one by one.
Dan Harris mentioned that he wrote a new book called "Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics" and encouraged listeners to preorder it immediately.
Just a gentle reminder that I wrote a book, a new book, it's called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and you can preorder it right now.
The caller found this book helpful in understanding that beginning again is the practice in meditation, even when constantly losing focus on the breath due to racing thoughts after a friend's suicide.
after i read or after i listened to your book Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics i during a one hour sit i well i'm lucky to get three breaths in a row where i'm focused on my breath
but your book Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics really helped me understand that this is meditation and beginning again is the practice and i'm not doing it wrong as long as i begin again
The guest, Paula Faris, was featured as a prominent character in Dan Harris's most recent book, where she discussed her journey related to meditation.
If you read my most recent book Meditation for Figuity Skeptics, she was featured in there as a, as quite a prominent character.
You were a big part of the last book I wrote Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and you were complaining to the meditation teacher with whom I wrote the book.
Dan Harris mentioned writing this second book with the goal of motivating people, particularly skeptics, to actually practice meditation by tapping into the brain's reward system.
I just wrote a book called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and the goal of the second book was to get people to actually do the thing.
This was a new book the speaker wrote with Jeff Warren to address obstacles to establishing a meditation habit, particularly for ambitious people, focusing on experimentation and avoiding guilt spirals.
I have a new book coming out soon and I this story is in the book in a in a big way actually by the time this post the book may already be out it's called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics available at find bookstore everywhere plug now done
So I wrote this the the most recent book that's uh um called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and and it's a the point was to help figure out what are the obstacles standing in the way of of doing this habit of establishing this habit that's manifestly really good for you and I you know you should you definitely should not bite off more than you can chew which is set up a guilt spiral that would kill the whole thing
This new book was written along with two co-authors and was intended to address the failure of the first book to inspire people to start meditating, as starting a habit is very hard. The goal of this book was to tell the story of a cross-country road trip taken with co-authors, help readers overcome obstacles to starting a meditation habit, and teach them how to meditate, with release scheduled for December 26th.
The book is called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics and it's all about my attempt to do what I kind of failed to do in my first book.

Anyway, so that book is out on December 26th in time for a new year, new you and back to my producers.
The speaker wrote this follow-up book to provide a thorough classification system of obstacles to meditation and offer tips to overcome them. It featured the story of the speaker's wife, who resisted meditation for years but made a recent change.
So you're going to hear me take a little bit of a beating from my wife, but you're also going to hear an incredibly smart and interesting person who has had a lot of stuff go on in her life and who lives with somebody's really into meditation and yet for years couldn't bring herself to do it. But has made a bit of a change recently and this is something I write about a lot in this new book that's coming out soon called Meditation for Figuity Skeptics.
I decided to write a follow-up book in which I really do a thorough taxonomy, a thorough classification system of all the big obstacles to meditation.
Bianca is a big part of the storyline because she is somebody we meet on day one of the road trip when we're in New York City before we take off and head across the country and she tells us all about why she doesn't meditate.
I wanted to write a book that would actually convince people to meditate and that thought was let's take a road trip we'll go across the country and we'll meet a bunch of wannabe meditators and figure out what's stopping them and and then we'll systematically come up with tips to help people get over the hump.
one of the chapters in the book as you know is about consistencies here are keeping the practice going and one of the things I said it's really useful that I learned in the process of talking to people who have fallen on and off the wagon is that when you actually falling off the wagon piece super useful because you see oh yeah this is what my meditation practice is doing for me it's stopping me from spiraling off into like useless anger and uh so now I'm more incentivized to get back on on the wagon so your story actually really illustrates that well.
The speaker mentioned this forthcoming book was based on a cross-country road trip he took with Jeff Warren to meet people who wanted to meditate but weren't, aiming to systematically address their obstacles to the practice. The book sought to classify and tackle common barriers to meditation, such as not having enough time or worrying about losing one's competitive edge.
Jeff Warren who is my co-author on the new Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics book you knew him from before we rolled through Nashville and went to your lab which we will talk about later you knew Jeff because he spent some time at following some of your research when you were at Harvard
The host mentioned that this was his new book which listeners could pre-order at the time of the recording.
Just a gentle reminder that I wrote a book, a new book, it's called Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics and you can preorder it right now.
A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion
The title was repeatedly highlighted on the show as a science‑based, reasoned guide to meditation and a way to explore spirituality without religion. Dan Harris and guests such as Tim Ferriss and the Minimalists praised it, noting its authoritative blend of neuroscience and personal practice and saying they had read it multiple times. The overall tone was strongly positive, with the book described as excellent, phenomenal, and highly recommended to listeners.
This was mentioned as one of Sam Harris's books, and the title is also shared with his popular meditation app.
I tell the story of the the Asian tourist and I think it was Norway do you remember this story yeah I don't want to bore people with you don't want to hear it but for me it's just it's the the best metaphor I ever came across for the kind of undercutting of the the false premise here it's this this I think was real I found this on the internet this is a purported to be a real story of an Asian tourist in I think it was Norway was on a tour bus and the bus stopped at a rest stop and everyone got off to enjoy the view and have a meal and and the tourists for whatever reason changed her clothing at the rest stop and then everyone got back on the bus and at some point someone stood up and said oh there's somebody missing there was this Asian woman who hasn't gotten back on the bus and because of language barriers and all the rest they woman didn't recognize that she what had been said there and she thought there was a missing tourist along with everyone the other people on the bus and they formed a search party and they went looking for the missing tourist and she joined the search party you know and this went long into the night and apparently you know helicopters were being ready for a dawn patrol to find the missing tourist and at some point in the middle of the night it was like you know three in the morning she recognized that everyone was looking for her right that she was the missing tourist and if you just got reflect on the logic of that what that epiphany was like and what it constituted it did not constitute the fulfillment of the search right like it's not like the missing tourist was ever found right or was ever missing right there's just there was a premise that was false and that just evaporated and something that was already the case was revealed because there was no one no one was lost right everyone was accounted for everyone everyone was present it was not like the stated problem was solved the problem really did evaporate and there's something there's something about that kind of phase shift in a direction you didn't even know was a possible direction that does some in some way capture the character of this insight which is that you know the the place from which you thought you were going to solve the problem was not the the angle of attack was wrong right and inspecting it sufficiently revealed that it was palpably false right like again I'm somewhat hamstrung by the words here but there's something to reflect on in that analogy it really does do some work for me yeah I agree does work for me as well and I look forward to getting further on this
There's a one section in Waking Up where I talk about an essay written by this philosopher Tom Clark really there's no substitute for reading his essay but he argued very much based on the impersonality of consciousness that the birth of any conscious being you know after your death is in some sense deeply analogous to your own rebirth given your identity as consciousness
Sam Harris wrote about a solitary period during a wilderness experience when he was a kid where his letters home rivaled anything seen from Gallipoli, suggesting intense self-pity and distress.
I don't know if you read sam harris's book Waking Up he talks about how he was on some sort of teen retreat i don't think it was a meditation retreat but some sort of wilderness experience when he was a kid and there was a a lone part a solitary part of it and he said his letters home rivaled anything you would have seen from Gallipoli and uh you know a shylo just complete self-pity you know all this stuff because i don't think he was prepared the way you're preparing kids to be alone and and look at their mind
Sam Harris wrote this tremendous book about meditation. The author mentioned that Sam Harris was instrumental in leading him to his first meditation retreat.
And Sam Harris coming back to Sam then who wrote a tremendous book Waking Up
This book was highly recommended by Dan Harris, who mentioned that Sam Harris, the author, hosts the 'Waking Up' podcast and is a dear friend. The book was mentioned in the context of Sam Harris and Joseph Goldstein's podcast discussions.
and if you don't know Sam he's the host of the very very popular Waking Up podcast he's written a bunch of amazing books but in this context the most relevant one is called Waking Up which I highly highly highly recommend
This book was highlighted as an excellent, science-based, reason-based case for working with the mind, written by Harris who has significant experience meditating and studying neuroscience.
three Sam Harris wrote an excellent book he's written many excellent books but this one's called Waking Up and he has an app by the same name full disclosure he's a friend and the book really is it excellent and science based reason based case for working with the mind
After using another app for a while, the guest transitioned to reading this book and was still working his way through it on his fifth or sixth read because he found it dense with information.
No it was um I think that launched me into Sam Harris's Waking Up. The book? Yeah which I'm still I think I'm on my fifth or sixth time and eventually I'll chew through it to actually get the um you know the essence out of because it's a lot.
I have read that book at least three times maybe maybe four times and every time I get something new out of it. It's a great book.
It's just a chuckful and nuts you can keep going back to something and put it on and go like oh yeah and then you still step back and say it's still very simple. You know what is this first line the mind is all we have it's all we'll ever have and I'm like oh yeah I can start there start there or can I do today...
This book, written by the host's husband, was mentioned as a work where he delves deeply into the practices of dropping the illusion of self. The guest noted that guided meditations for children by Annaka Harris are now available on the Waking Up app.
Sam Harris your husband wrote a book with it where he gets deep into these practices of Waking Up which is the name of the app that he has it now I should say you have
and I love that book so much I've read it many many times
The host read this book multiple times and referred to it as excellent. It was the source of many of the questions discussed, particularly concerning spirituality without religion and the illusion of the self.
You write about this in a really compelling and often extremely funny way in your excellent book Waking Up which I've read maybe four or five times.
one of the main theses of the aforementioned excellent book Waking Up which is that we can that it is possible to have a kind of spirituality without religion
the principal thesis in Waking Up that that the self is an illusion
This was described as an amazing book centered around meditation, which Dan Harris highly and unreservedly recommended to everyone.
He called it Waking Up because that was actually a name of the name of another book he wrote that meditation was at the center of that book Waking Up as an amazing book I recommended highly and unreservally to everybody.
Sam Harris mentioned this book in the context of a wilderness experience he had as a kid, noting his letters home rivaled descriptions of profound suffering.
there's a funny um i don't know if you read sam harris's book Waking Up he talks about how he was on some sort of teen retreat i don't think it was a meditation retreat but some sort of wilderness experience when he was a kid and there was a a lone part a solitary part of it and he said his letters home rivaled anything you would have seen from Gallipoli
Dan Harris recommended this book as phenomenal, noting that Sam Harris writes about meditation with real authority as both a meditator and a scientist.
And he then wrote a book about that got into some of that and also some of the brain science he went off and became a neuroscientist as well so he writes about it with real authority both as a meditator and as a scientist called Waking Up which is phenomenal book I recommended heartily to everybody's also got a podcast called Waking Up that I also recommend to everybody.
Sam Harris, a mutual friend, wrote this book, and he was credited with getting Tim Ferriss to attend his first meditation retreat.
Sam Harris for the uninitiated is an amazing writer and philosopher a podcaster and mutual friend of ours who he got me on my first meditation retreat.
Vipassana would be sort of old school Buddhist meditation which is quite different in technique from very different from transcendental meditation no mantra and much much much for me much much more difficult and Sam Harris coming back to Sam then who wrote a tremendous book Waking Up
This was a book written by Sam Harris, the host of the "Waking Up" podcast, which Dan Harris highly recommended. Sam Harris introduced Dan Harris to Joseph Goldstein.
and if you don't know Sam he's the host of the very very popular Waking Up podcast he's written a bunch of amazing books but in this context the most relevant one is called Waking Up which I highly highly highly recommend

And he then wrote a book about that got into some of that and also some of the brain science he went off and became a neuroscientist as well so he writes about it with real authority both as a meditator and as a scientist called Waking Up which is phenomenal book I recommended heartily to everybody's also got a podcast called Waking Up that I also recommend to everybody
The Art of Mindful Connection
The book was highlighted throughout the series as Sharon Salzberg’s latest work that inspired several guided meditations and was praised by Dan Harris as an excellent, skill‑based approach to love and compassion. Salzberg herself referenced sections of the book when explaining practices for dealing with inner criticism, relationship challenges, and self‑goodness. Harris repeatedly described it as great and noted he was reading it, framing it as a valuable tool for cultivating mindful connection. Overall, the podcast presented the book as a highly recommended resource for listeners.
This was Sharon Salzberg's most recent book mentioned, and the meditation practice discussed was inspired by part one of it.
This is a practice inspired by part one of my book Real Love.
The practice used in the meditation was inspired by the second section of this book, which explored what real love could mean in various relationships. The book addresses how to love skillfully and deal with difficulties like loss, disappointment, hurt, and fear within relationships.
This practice is inspired by the second section of my book Real Love.
As we explore what Real Love can mean with our partners, our children, our parents, our siblings, as well as friends, colleagues and spiritual teachers, whomever.
Sharon Salzberg's forthcoming book, which Dan Harris was currently reading, was mentioned as great.
And the fourth coming, Real Love, which comes out in June, which I'm reading right now and it's great.
The book was released around the time of the podcast episode and discusses how one can practice compassion and love just as one practices mindfulness and concentration. The meditations offered with the book focus on connecting with one's own goodness as a counter to self-criticism and negative thinking.
This one's from the legendary Sharon Salisberg who is releasing a new book called Real Love which is about the fact that just as you can practice mindfulness and concentration and calm, you can actually practice compassion and love which is a pretty revolutionary headline.
This meditation was inspired by the first section of my book Real Love because many of us find ourselves ruminating on the things we regret and the mistakes we've made, sometimes, predominantly sometimes almost exclusively.
We experiment with this kind of exercise to broaden our perspective. It will help you redirect your attention and remember your basic goodness or worth.
The point is not to deny your mistakes but to understand that if you keep rehearsing them, analyzing them, creating stories around them, you're going to be reinforcing the pain and alienation they've already caused you.
When you can recognize and reflect on even one good thing about yourself, you're building a bridge to a place of kindness and caring, standing in that place increases your ability to look honestly and directly at whatever's difficult and gives you the energy and the courage to move forward.
The speaker admitted to only reading half of this excellent new book because he was deeply engrossed in writing his own book. The book was presented as a way to redefine love as a skill or ability, contrasting with the common thought of love as a commodity.
I have been a bad boy, a bad friend and only read half of Real Love which is excellent as everything she has written has been but I didn't get to read all of it so I admit that to her
This book is really a way to redefine what love is as a skill or an ability.
I've read half of this excellent book and then I got sucked into writing my own book full disclosure from the jump
And it follows on your previous books Real Happiness, Real Happiness at Work. And also you're really from my point of view seminal book of loving kindness early on

The Science and Philosophy of Meditation and Enlightenment
The book was highlighted as a credible, academically styled work that provided intellectual scaffolding for skeptics and explained Buddhism through evolutionary psychology. Hosts Dan Harris, Ezra Klein, Arthur C. Brooks, and several guests recommended it as a wonderful, deep, and funny exploration of the mind from a secular, scientific perspective. The overall sentiment was highly positive, positioning the title as a must‑read for anyone interested in Buddhism or the science of the mind.
This book was recommended for the intellectual scaffolding it provided to support Matt Harris's interest in Buddhism, it was deemed credible and written in an interesting but dry, academic manner.
another really important book at the outset was Robert Wright's book Why Buddhism is True mainly to provide the intellectual scaffolding to sort of quiet the skeptic because he writes in a you know interesting but sort of dry a no facademic enough way to bring a lot of credibility to the topic
The book was mentioned as Robert Wright's bestselling book with an audacious title. It was discussed in the context of its insights into human psychology and Buddhism.
You may know Robert Wright from his bestselling book with the audacious title Why Buddhism is True.
I love that book.
I mean, my first thought was yeah we're being manipulated in a sense by natural selection right the designer of human nature but what you're thinking of is also true which is that for example somebody who wants to increase their follower count on Twitter can find somebody in the other tribe doing something crazy say something about it that enrages people in my tribe and I kind of fall for the bait because that is my first feeling right yeah they're horrible and I retweet it and I increase the follower count of this person who is ultimately being kind of manipulative you know this is one of the big problems of our time is that the way you increase your stature within your tribe I mean this is an eternal truth probably but the way it's playing out on social media is deeply problematic the way you increase your follower count within your own tribe is to demonize the other tribe
The Buddhism book is somewhat obnoxiously titled Why Buddhism is True I mean some people find it obnoxious but it's not dogmatic in the way it sounds I like to think so
The author of this book was mentioned as the guest for the following day's episode, and he had done fascinating work challenging his own tribal instincts.

So just I always start with the same question which is how did you personally get into this meditation thing?
I'm actually trying to deal with it in a Buddhist way which is really hard... I am trying to deal with it in a Buddhist way which is really hard you know some things are easier than some feelings are easier to deal with than others.
This book was recommended for its perspective from a skeptical science journalist expert in evolutionary psychology who embraced Buddhism from a Western scientific standpoint to hack negative habit patterns.

The speaker looked at Daniel Goleman's model for emotional intelligence and became a student of it, training police officers in the concepts.
I started with the Emotional Intelligence. I looked at Dan Goldman's model and became a student of that and actually trained Emotional Intelligence, you know, sort of in an academic environment to cops and realized okay, now they know about Emotional Intelligence but they're not building skills in Emotional Intelligence.
This book was described as a huge, paradigm-shifting work from a couple of decades ago that focused on not being controlled by one's emotions.

The book that came out in april's called Real Life that was book number 12 and i like that what a lot is about what life is like when we're feeling most contracted and most trapped

Real Life is about the inner journey and journeys we make when we decide to fully live life, whatever the world has presented to us, knowing that life is short and also that life is sacred.
This was described as Sharon Salzberg's latest book, which was born while she was in lockdown during the pandemic. The exploration within the book centered on when people feel most constricted versus most expansive and open.
Her latest is called, Real Life: The Journey from Isolation to Openness and Freedom.
The book was born actually while I was in lockdown as so many people were during the pandemic height and I was watching this show on YouTube called Saturday Night Sater
so that's why I like this book I like a lot you know sometimes when I think it's my 12th book I think but I feel like one thing I did in this book was in theater we would say I broke the fourth wall I felt like I was addressing people very directly in different ways called Real Life the journey from isolation to openness and freedom published by flat iron
This forthcoming release from Flatiron Books was set for release in April of 2023, and content from it previewed in Dan Harris's TED Talk.
And now one of the theses of that book is actually based on this line from this movie, Dan, in Real Life, in which Peter had just who wrote it and directed it said, love is not a feeling. It's an ability.

He's written several books including Mindfulness, one Dharma and the experience of insight.
And all month here on the show I'm going back in interviewing some key players from the book and Joseph is certainly one of those key players.
The book was strongly recommended by the host, who noted that Joseph Goldstein had written many books but considered this one especially good.
Joseph also wrote a whole book which I hardly recommend called Mindfulness. He's written many books but that's an especially good one.
it's an in-depth discussion of this whole discourse and it goes into a lot of detail on each of the foundations so we're kind of skimming the surface in a certain way but people who find some interest might look at the book and you'll see many more subtleties involved
This book was described as a very in-depth overview of the four foundations of mindfulness, containing practical exercises for readers to explore various aspects of the topic on their own.
one of the great books out there about particularly what I've just been talking about about the four foundations of Mindfulness and his a plug one of which is Joseph Goldstein's book called Mindfulness
Joseph Goldstein mentioned this book as a source for further exploration of the eightfold path, noting it contains many chapters on the subject.
I know there are so many places where you can begin the investigation in my book Mindfulness there's many chapters on the eightfold path and so that could be one place to explore

This book, which came out before 'The Four Tendencies,' focused on how people make and break habits and identified 21 strategies for habit formation.
after that she wrote a book called Better Than Before.
And I was like that's interesting because I don't feel that problem, that's not a frustration that I face so what do all these people have in common or just hearing how people approached it. I really started to sense these big patterns and that's what turned into the four tendencies
This book, which was described as utterly fascinating, discussed habit change and was mentioned alongside another book on the same topic.
And then she wrote some books about habit change which are utterly fascinating. They're called one is called Better Than Before, the other is called For the Four Tendencies.
This more recent book, released in 2015, focused on habits, specifically how to break bad ones and establish new ones.
And then the more recent book which came out I believe in 2015. Yes. You just got Better Than Before and it's about habits and how to break bad ones and establish new ones.
I like that a lot I'm curious about your own personal habit because I had lunch with you not too long ago before your book came out and I knew you were really disciplined about what you eat and you actually mentioned that you have changed the way you eat and I think in part as a consequence from what you learned in doing the book.
And then Better Than Before I described what happened which is the strategy of the lightning bolt which is when you have a new piece of information or you have some experience and all of a sudden your habits changed almost effortlessly because you just have some new belief and so your habits fall in line it's a one when my thoughts about nutrition changed.
This book covered how people make and break habits, and the concepts discussed in it led to the framework of the Four Tendencies.

And then the more recent book which came out I believe in 2015. Yes. You just got Better Than Before and it's about habits and how to break bad ones and establish new ones.
I have 21 strategies in Better Than Before that's one of the first and most powerful for most people.
The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work
The host and various guests repeatedly highlighted the book as a foundational text in positive psychology, noting its core idea that happiness is the joy felt while moving toward one's potential. They cited its practical advice on gratitude exercises, a generous approach to social media, and the brain‑training principles that underlie long‑term happiness. The discussion conveyed strong endorsement of the title’s impact on personal and professional performance.
The guest mentioned hearing the author discuss his formulation that happiness is the joy felt when moving toward potential, which inherently implies one never fully arrives.
The writer Sean Acore, say recently, do you know Sean? No, I don't. S-H-A-W-N first name, A-C-H-O-R, he wrote a book called The Happiness Advantage.
This was described as Shawn Achor's first book which laid out the scientific explanation for how positive habits could impact one's life.
He's perhaps best known for his book, The Happiness Advantage.
This book by a Harvard-trained scientist in positive psychology was mentioned in reference to the practice of gratitude. The author suggested listing three things that happened that day to train the brain to scan for good things.
I was recently interviewing an expert in his scientist trained at Harvard who did positive psychology at Harvard. He's got Sean Acore, S-H-A-W-N, last name A-C-H-O-R. He wrote a book called The Happiness Advantage and he one of the things he talks a lot about is gratitude turns out his because I had been doing this thing where every time right as I'm going to bed I just list all the things I'm grateful for he said the one tweak you would put on that is to list three things that you're grateful for today.
The book was referenced in a discussion about ambition and happiness, where the author quoted the book's idea that happiness is the joy felt when moving toward one's potential, implying that the endpoint itself is not the source of lasting satisfaction.
The writer Sean Acore, say recently, do you know Sean? S-H-A-W-N first name, A-C-H-O-R, he wrote a book called The Happiness Advantage.
He says happiness is the joy we feel moving toward our potential. And when I heard him say that, it meant exactly nothing to me.
This was identified as Shawn Achor's first book, which detailed the initial research showing that happiness could significantly benefit a person's life.
He's perhaps best known for his book, The Happiness Advantage.
The first book with the Happiness of Ange and that's when we first started realizing happiness could be such a benefit in somebody's life so what do we do to pursue more of that happiness?
We took this language from this book called the Happiness of Ange which was the scientific explanations about how we could prove that these positive habits had an impact upon your life and we realized we could use this narrative to bring this into the lives of students right?
This book was mentioned in the context of its author's approach to social media, where he focused on viewing others' posts as a practice of generosity rather than checking his own posts.
There's this great writer his name is Sean Acor ACHOR he wrote a book called The Happiness Advantage
and he said he changed his approach to social media where he doesn't check his own posts
The host mentioned Shawn Achor's work and book, stating that 90% of long-term happiness is predicated on how one can train their brain and purpose their experience.
you know Sean of course book The Happiness Advantage in his work 90% of long term happiness is predicated on how to brain and purpose our experience
A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
The book was brought up repeatedly, with Dan Harris noting that while its core idea about the inner narrator was accurate, it lacked practical advice and felt off‑putting. Soren Gordhamer mocked the author yet admitted the work highlighted the ever‑present inner voice, and Dan Ryckert described alternating moments of insight and nonsense, ultimately finding some worthwhile points. Overall, the podcast treated the title as thought‑provoking but flawed.
The guest mentioned listening to Eckhart Tolle, whose argument in this book centered on recognizing the internal voice in one's head and emphasized the primary focus on the present moment.
I remember listening to a lot of Eckhart Tully one thing's Eckhart said I just say again it's the best selling self-help guru I mock him a little bit in my book but also have to admit that he even though I have my criticisms of him kind of woke me up to the central fact that we all have a voice in our heads and that is really his argument in his books The Power of Now and the new earth
The speaker mentioned owning this book and noted that the author discusses the same concepts here as in their other work. They found the material worth reading and rereading because the core idea is very difficult for human beings to absorb.
The Power of Now because that's what I have it's a new earth but they're but he says the same thing in both so how many times can you say the same thing well because he's saying something that takes a hard that is very hard for human beings to absorb it actually is worth reading and rereading.
The guest read this book early on and described experiencing moments where he felt the author was onto something profound, immediately followed by moments where the content seemed nonsensical or lunatic.
I did read uh The Power of Now and reading year yeah and reading your description of that it was 100% my experience with that where there would be these moments of just like wow I think he's really onto something here and then these moments of like what the hell is this guy talking about like this doesn't make any sense he sounds like a lunatic
The speaker mentioned reading this book by Eckhart Tolle, noting that it changed their life, although they found the author's delivery style off-putting and sometimes pseudoscientific. They felt the book's core message, which focuses on being present, is incredibly difficult for most people to absorb and is worth rereading.
I would say that reading one of his books changed my life hmm but he does well is The Power of Now because that's what I have it's a new earth but they're but he says the same thing in both
it actually is worth reading and rereading my problem with him is that he says it in ways that I find like it almost like you can hear a pan flute playing in the background I find it very off-putting and hard to understand
This book, along with 'A New Earth,' contained the central argument that we all have a voice in our heads, which woke up Soren Gordhamer to a central fact about inner life.
The guest found moments in this book where he felt the author was onto something profound, balanced by other moments where the content seemed nonsensical, but ultimately gleaned some good points from it.
I did read uh The Power of Now and reading year yeah and reading your description of that it was 100% my experience with that where there would be these moments of just like wow I think he's really onto something here and then these moments of like what the hell is this guy talking about like this doesn't make any sense he sounds like a lunatic.
Dan Harris read this book, which presented the thesis that one's inner narrator owns them if they are unaware of its nonstop nattering. However, Harris found the book correct but not useful because it didn't offer much actionable advice.
Power of Now, A New Earth. Oprah Winfrey was, you know, pushing his stuff.
A friend of mine has described Tolli as correct, but not useful.
