No discussion of growth Mindset would be complete without mentioning that growth Mindset is the brainchild of my colleague Carol Dweck in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University today you'll learn how she discovered growth Mindset and you will learn how others have taken that discovery and expanded upon it and especially its application in and out of the classroom.
The research paper I'd like to discuss briefly that beautifully embodies the runway that led to the discovery of growth Mindset is paper from Dr. Carol Duac as well as her colleague Claudia Mueller and the title of the paper essentially says it all the title is praise for intelligence can undermine children's motivation and performance
The paper was published in 1998 but just two years prior in 1996 there was a survey of parents asking to what extent do you believe that intelligence is fixed? An 85% answered that they thought that intelligence was fixed
This paper was really ahead of its time and it's really what seeded the entire field of growth Mindset and the understanding of what that is
The study I'm referring to is a study first author, Mangle's last author No surprise, Carol Dweck And it's entitled Why do beliefs about intelligence influence learning success? A social-cognitive neuroscience model

It's a new book by Dr. Sapolsky about the science of life without free will. The podcast host discussed it and its content at length, including how free will relates to behaviours, choices, and the broader context of our lives.
Robert also revealed to me that he is close to completing a new book entitled Determined, The Science of Life Without Free Will,
title is determined a science of life without free will and essentially the first half of the book is trying to convince a reader.
And then the second half is this gigantic juncture built around the fact that i've thought there's any free will since i was like an adolescent and despite thinking that way i still have absolutely no idea how you're supposed to function with that belief.
How are we supposed to like go about everyday life if anything you feel entitled to isn't true if any angers and hatreds you feel are justified if there's no such thing as appropriate you know blame or punishment or praise or reward and none of it makes any sense and somebody like even compliments you on your haircut and you've been conditioned to like say oh thanks as if you have something to do.
Yeah, determined from the science of life without fruile seems like we can't publish a book these days without a sub title so that's that's it's fantastic well very excited to read the book.

Rather go out and acquire skills and get develop a sense of passion for something by your experience of hard work and getting better and feedback.
