This is something that I'm going to teach you called the high five habit.

I'm going to teach you how to use a simple hand gesture with a brand new thought to reprogram the way that you look at yourself, that you treat yourself and it's going to help you love yourself.

Check out Mel's book, *The High 5 Habit*

I did a whole episode about this, but I'm going to explain it for those of you that are brand new. Here's how we're going to do this. Right after you brush your teeth. And we're going to do it after you brush your teeth because this habit should be paired with something that you already do and you don't even think about that's called habit stacking.

And it's going to help you encode this habit of simply high fiving yourself in the mirror. So when you're done flossing, brushing, rinsing, spitting, put the toothbrush down. Take a moment. Look the human being in the eyes. You know who I want you to see? I want you to see all your hopes and dreams in the hands of the person in that mirror.

You're going to start your day and your million dollar morning with a little huddle with yourself. You're going to set an intention with yourself as you stand there after brushing your teeth.

This is so grounded in research. You got to get your mind right. You're going to stand there and decide who am I going to be today? Is today a day about peace, about freedom? Is it a day about momentum, courage? How am I going to show up today for myself? Who am I going to be?

And then when you're ready, just like a winning team does, you are going to raise that hand and you're going to high five the future you in the mirror.

You are going to send yourself into the game of life knowing that no matter what happens today, you're a winner. You can do this. You are going to do your best. You're going to try. You're going to shake off the bullshit that comes your way and you're going to get out there and you're going to make it a great day.

The high five habit is the science-backed, fast-tracked, research-backed way to plow an entirely new neuropathway and relationship with yourself into your brain, body, mind, and spirit.

"

That it was a stupid idea?

I believe it was that's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. I'm not doing it.

I immediately thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Let's go to the mirror. Let's high five ourselves. And this is going to solve all problems.

I didn't feel like I deserve that high five.

I look at myself differently. And I know you do too.

Episode: 5 Things the Men in Your Life Aren’t Telling You b...

The podcast discussed Mel Robbins' book, "The high five habit," which advocates for a simple habit of high-fiving oneself in the mirror to improve self-perception and boost self-love. Mel's husband, Chris, initially found the concept ridiculous but later acknowledged its transformative impact on his self-image after trying it.

"

I believe it was that's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. I'm not doing it.

I immediately thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Let's go to the mirror. Let's high five ourselves. And this is going to solve all problems.

And when you come back to that moment, I'll tell you something, I look at myself differently. And I know you do too.

The physical act does the work for you. And it starts to plow new neural pathways, and it releases dopamine, all of which will help you do the other work that you need to do to walk down the road of forgiving yourself.

if you're at a place where you are beating the shit out of yourself, and you can't stand yourself for whatever reason, whatever you did, we've all done something.

Episode: 5 Things the Men in Your Life Aren’t Telling You b...

The book's central concept, the high-five habit, was discussed. The husband, Chris, initially found the idea ridiculous but later found it profoundly helpful in self-love and overcoming feelings of failure after trying it for five days.

"

That it was a stupid idea? I believe it was that's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. I'm not doing it.

I immediately thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Let's go to the mirror. Let's high five ourselves. And this is going to solve all problems.

I think at the time, I related to the idea of a high five to myself as being encouragement, the idea that you would high five yourself to inspire forward action. And yet, I find that the power of that high five in the mirror is less your hand meeting the mirror, and more your eyes meeting your eyes.

I saw failure. I saw upset. I saw just not living up to the expectation that I think I had set for myself.

I didn't, I didn't feel like I deserve that high five. So I, I think that that was probably the the underlying reason why my reaction to the idea of doing it was this is stupid.

The book contains information on how to use the "look for hearts" exercise to reprogram your mind and increase synchronicity awareness. It was mentioned as a resource for understanding synchronicity and improving one's life.

"

I talk more about synchronicity, including a powerful story from my life and how to create more of them, in my New York Times bestselling book The High 5 Habit.

And I've been doing this for years. It is a daily habit. And I didn't realize until recently that looking for hearts is an example of training your brain for synchronicity.

And I've got a sheet that thousands of you have already downloaded. You're using it in order to become clear about what you want.

Episode: How Do I Learn to Love Myself, Really?

The podcast host mentioned that her book, "The High Five Habit", discussed the science and research behind being kind to yourself and learning to love yourself. She described it as relevant to the topic of self-love and acceptance.

"

And this is really important. It's really important because based on the research, there was this massive study done in the UK, where they took a look at absolutely every single behavior or attitude change you could make or you could practice in terms of improving your life.

And they looked at everything they looked at changing your diet, practicing gratitude, having a meditation practice, exercising regularly, seeing your friends more, all the things that we know we should be doing, right?

But do you know that the single behavior change that has the biggest and most profound impact on your quality of your day to day life is simply being kinder to yourself?

Yeah, that's right. According to the research, being kinder to yourself, learning how to accept and love yourself, it is the biggest mover in terms of your happiness, meaning, confidence, all of it.

And so today's episode of the Mel Robbins podcast is a deeply personal, encouraging, optimistic, at times funny, because it's so relatable and sad conversation that could change your life.

And this is exactly what my last book, The High Five Habit was all about the science and the research and the habits of learning how to be kind to and cheer for and love yourself.

So the high five habit, super simple. Don't overthink this.

The action alone of high fiving yourself does all the work neurologically, physiologically, chemically and psychologically.

You could be listening to this juicy fantasy audio book that I'm currently addicted to, A Court of Thorn or Roses, but you're a lot smarter than me because you chose to listen to something that can help you create a better life instead of trying to escape yours by disappearing into a world of fairies.

Just imagine that there are two different worlds. And one world, you're living in right now. And the other world is the world that you have the ability to create. So this is just an exercise, right? I want you to find some clues, so that I can be a happier me here.

When you're reading a fantasy novel like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or Fourth Wing, isn't it interesting that the main character has this ability to pass between worlds?
