but you know the one chapter that changed everything for me was that one chapter about stress and emotion processing and I was surprised and I said that to Amelia

You could come Amazon and you want to find a copy of a good book to read, say, Nudge, the final edition just to pick an example.
So as long as we're defining terms, let's introduce one that's new to this version of the book, the final version I might add. We called it that to make sure we never do it again.
When we decided to rewrite this book which our publishers have assured us no one has ever been stupid enough to do this before. Take a successful book and for no good reason rewrite it.
Well the book is called Nudge, The Final Edition and it's about two thirds new. We're really written from cover to cover and we hope people enjoy it because we wanted it to make it fun.

He wrote a book, it's a letter to his wife and you're going to hear him speak about why he did it and you're going to hear some, as I said, it's really an honor, it was an honor to sit with him and talk about this stuff and I think it's going to be very useful to anybody who listens to it so I give you Joe DiNardo.
And I wrote the book and what happened is one my wife passed away. Of course there was a dare so between that and the funeral. And usually had a funeral like that. Nises and nephews are asked to each say a few words about the rant. And that's great. And that's a wonderful way to do it. But for some reason I felt that something, my wife, I wanted to do something different for her.
I thought of maybe I put a little book together, call it a letter to my wife would be the letter.
Medears love, I write this letter tonight on tear-stained paper. My heart lies in pieces on our bedroom floor but I wanted to share something with you before you go on your journey.
And I knew then that I wanted to be and would be there every step of wherever this journey might take you. I never knew how much I loved you and in that moment I knew and experienced the love I had never shared or experienced before.

The speaker discovered this book while researching emotional eating, and applying its principles, along with mindfulness and self-compassion, was a turning point in her recovery.
But the real turning point I think for me was discovering the book intuitive eating by Evelyn Tribalyn and Elise Ress and I know you had Evelyn on the podcast before and she's a friend of both of ours and just wonderful person and I discovered the book because I was starting to research my own book that I never ended up writing about emotional eating because at the time I identified as an emotional eater felt like you know I'm just out of control with food whenever I get access to certain foods I just eat them in this emotional way where I can't stop and what's the deal with that what are the origins of that and so through that research I discovered intuitive eating I brought that into my own therapy with a therapist who was really more specialized in like anxiety, somatic experiencing sensory motor psychotherapy and a lot of mindfulness and so that's where I really first discovered meditation and self-compassion and I think intuitive eating just sort of plugged right in with those practices and made a lot of sense to me both as someone who had been an intuitive eater growing up and sort of practiced that for 20 years in my life and as someone who was newly discovering self-compassion and meditation and mindfulness like it just really resonated with where I was.
