I was actually talking with Mark Manson, author of "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck", and his new book "Everything Is F*cked", of course, rolling with that theme, and we're friends, so I ask him all the time, like, "Hey, how's the book with Will Smith going and stuff?"

And he's like, "Well, I mean, aside from the crippling anxiety and the fact that I'm working with somebody that has impossibly high standards and is like richer than all of my friends and family combined and, like, you know, expects all this crazy..."

I'm like, "Oh, okay, so it's not just like every day kicking it with Will Smith and, like, being being fun, right?"

He's like, "No, not really. I mean, he's loving it, right, but not because of the wild thrill ride that is every amazing day of typing out this book."

there's a great book by Stephen Greenbach called The Swerr and it's this insane story in the 1400s about how the Roman philosopher Lucretius was rediscovered

Most people just go like, put yourself out there, network, and it's like, and seen. Right? That's the whole show.

the results are faster, easier, better

my goal is to make this a best seller right so I'm very clear this is what we're working on right now

and this is embodying how I think about people, how I think about interactions, how I think about how I'm putting myself out there and when you are a connector you're always thinking with these mindsets

definitely worth a read

There are entire books about this one is called MLM Unmasked I'm going to link the entire text of this book available online for free in the show notes.

What's cool if you've ever read the book the The Shack um it's sold like ten or twenty million copies that book the reason they got published the guy wrote that to teach God to his kids he had like eight kids somebody left five twenty dollar bills in his mailbox randomly when he didn't have two cents to rub together and it gave him enough money to go buy milk bread Philip was carved with gas and he went to office max and printed eight copies of the book for his kids for Christmas and one of his buddies ended up getting a hold of the book and seeing it and was so inspired by it um that they took it to a publisher I think a self published place and printed so many copies and covered the cost and it was a self published book but it's literally like there's a movie made about it now and it's it's gone worldwide like ten twenty million copies of this book and it came from a hundred dollars

there's really several types of people we fit into these categories into these buckets unfortunately entrepreneurs think a certain way managers think another way and accounting process people think another way

this is a book that I recommend it's a short book I didn't write it I've no involvement was written by a person who I've since met developed a friendship with my name a Michael Gerber he wrote a book called Emeth Revisited and it's a short book

and Emeth really it categorizes people into these buckets really well and I think it helps people identify if in fact they fit that entrepreneurial model or not

So an audience of one, I gotta admit, if I'm creating something, I don't want an audience of one initially, right? That's a little depressing.

I think that so often we try really hard to get somebody's attention and I think the question we should be asking instead of how do I get somebody's attention is how do I create something that's worthy of somebody's attention?

And I think really it's summed up well by something they said, you don't need to have your picture on the cover of magazines to make great music.

So much so that when in this documentary about the two members of Daft Punk, when they were being courted by executives at Virgin Records, the executive showed up to take them from the dinner in a limousine. And they said, we don't want to be seen getting into the limousine. We'll see you at the restaurant for dinner and they took the subway.

And I think that what has happened as a result of the fact that we're obsessed with outcomes is that something that should bring a great deal of the way, so I think that's a great deal of joy to our life, expressing our creativity, making things has ended up bringing a great deal of distress to our life.

He's authored a grip of books about why we feel desire. What it means, how jealousy works as we've discussed in previous episodes with Duena Welsh and he's got just a fascinating insight into the mind of us humans and how and why we mate.

I first wrote a wrote about that in my book The Evolution of Desire that that's exactly what women look for is they look for that future resource trajectory not necessarily the how thick as wall it is at the moment.

I actually cite actually in the mate switching paper is that 85% of people have gone through at least one romantic breakup and so what that means is people don't find the one and only when they're 18 years old and then have lifelong monogamy for the rest of their lives.

I'd love to talk status I mean that was my jam back when I was doing the whole dating thing and really when I was inventing the advanced human dynamics curriculum recently I went through a lot of the status stuff that I teach to military intelligence agencies and things like that and the roots are all in mating they really are all in survival and reproduction.

I cannot wait to have him back on to discuss his next book that's coming out pretty soon I think there's just so much every time he drops a paper I'm just like yep and just inhale that thing.

Chris is a very successful entrepreneur and author of Niche Down as well as play bigger both our worthwhile read if you're in business, especially if you're running a small business or you're in business for yourself.

Okay, another one I think is good is 'Breaking Free of the Drama Triangle' by Barry Weinhold. That's another good one.

I'm so happy that I learned to like books instead of social approval because chasing social approval man, that will always work out for the worst especially in that environment and those are the people you're trying to get the approval of.

I think that surprises a lot of people but the whole act like you belong there this is hardwired biology right it's not a matter of wearing a suit having a name tag I think fighting hardwired biology the tribalism that exists in humans where we see the guy in the pilots uniform we're wired to think that something we see is actually true or actually there and fighting that hardwired biology takes a lot of vigilance I think it takes a lot of training some of which you provide but people don't naturally have this I don't look at a pilot who's standing in an airport lobby and go that could be a fake pilot

fraud is here to stay and it's on the rise never in history has been easier to be a con artist or be victimized by one because of technology everything's faster everything's more anonymous everything's more global more interconnected and in his book he covers identity theft investment scams it's called Scam Me If You Can which is clever digital safety there's romance scams

I spoke to this guy who's written like the official book of almond history which is a thing that's a super exciting guy it's more entertaining than I expected.

It's called Grief Day By Day by Jen Warner, she wrote it after her husband already died, best friend, life partner, right, then lose them to cancer and in the year since he passed away she wrote this book based on her experience which contains a lot of her wisdom about working through grief.

Addiction feels like self-care but it's the opposite and it can be deadly as well as dead end.

...it's unfortunately very common for a grieving person to try and blunt the pain of grief in unhealthy and even dangerous ways.

We've not found anything to soften our loneliness and that's why we start numbing...

...the only way out is through... the obstacle is the way.
