Never Give Up. It's the name of your latest book.
Never Give Up the name of your recent book this book I got the sense that it was slightly more special than previous books to you and that it had taken five years to write this book that you wrote it all yourself
I wrote an autobiography called mud sweat and tears originally but the truth is you know that and that book did well you know it did 20 weeks at number one and I always kind of felt that I'm not going to beat that I'm not going to do another but we're done but that book really ended as TV started and so many of the questions that I get asked by my kids and by people in the street always like the behind the scenes what was it like on this what was it like taking that person or what about the struggles there or whatever and in a way they're the stories that I wanted my boys to understand you know and I think my kids have kind of grown up and seen the good sight seen the things that have worked but aren't always aware of the many failures behind those successes and I wanted to be able to share all of that and share the things that actually made the difference and I wanted to write it myself and you know be honest in it and so it took a long time to write but I'm really proud of it and I think it was always going to be called Never Give Up
I'm proud to call it Never Give Up
you're someone that's recommend everybody reads the paperback is out on the 9th of June but it's really you can tell you've written it you can tell that it's come from a place of real authenticity and someone who is is willing to tell you the truth and we need a lot more of that

I delve deep into your story, into your book, it became so apparently clear to me that your early years, your childhood were very, very formative.
One of the other quotes which I found really interesting and inspiring was that your aim when you started Dermalogica was to piss off the 80% and to please the 20%. That's a quote taken from your book, Skin in the Game.
In the book, Skin in the Game, I tell the story of the acquisition because the likely suspects of who would acquire us... guided us was Unilever.
I learned so much just from researching your life and your book, the sort of human vulnerable honest nature, whilst also this constant undertone of real actionable advice is what makes it so important.

Reading your book, Emotion By Design, um, has taught me a lot of the things that I did right. And I didn't even know I did right.

Tim, I read in your book, Winning, The Unforgiving Race to Greatness, Chapter 12. And I don't usually start with people's books. I want to usually start somewhere else. But in Chapter 12, you talk about this concept of the dark side and the darker side.
I said this in Winning. Different scares people. When you're different, it scares people. When the world is different, it scares people.
One of the things you said, which I found really thought provoking and it kind of bucked the trend in chapter 12 of your book is when someone says showing up is half the battle, you're looking at an individual who is already losing the battle.
In chapter five of your book, you speak to some of these things that Michael would do to his teammates.
I also talked about this in Winning when I described how the dark side can be both a driving force and a source of pain.
