He shared that he used to struggle with consuming foods like cauliflower and raw onions, but has improved his gut health through a journey of learning about his gut microbiome. I know you went through a bit of, you know, having read your book, you went through a bit of this experience also over the last, you know, 15 years where in a sense your gut was really not in good shape.
So you would eat these foods, you know, I don't know, cauliflowers and raw onions or whatever, and you like really struggle with them. But the truth is, you know, that's a sign of I think the state of your gut and your microbiome and all the rest of it.
And although you can't just instantly switch this on, you know, I've definitely experienced that step by step. And a lot of this has been through the Zoe experience and the guidance that I am now able sort of like you to eat a very high FODMAP diet and sort of seek it out and feel great about how it makes me feel.
And I know if I just tried to eat that diet a decade ago, I would be feeling really sick.
And when I say that I want the high FODMAP diet when I want all those high FODMAP foods, I didn't feel that way 15 years ago, I felt the opposite.

And I really enjoyed the book, which I was reading on the plane over and it made me think about exercise quite a bit.
So I work out two to three times a week because I've been convinced by a whole variety of scientists that this is really important for my health, but it's definitely not fun.
And I know that's one of the things you talk about in this book along with a whole series of other myths.
The reason I started this book, actually, they really... Sometimes people make up these epiphanies, right? But I actually really had one when I was doing some research in Northern Mexico, studying a Native American population that's famous for its running, the Tata Humara.

The conversation used the book as a framework to explore how changing one's mindset can fundamentally impact chronic health and longevity.
It was discussed numerous times throughout the podcast, and was mentioned as containing many of the studies which were discussed by Professor Langer in this episode.
And when you say you put the mind in strange places, what do you mean by that? Well, the original study testing the mind-body unity was the counterclockwise study.
And so as I report in The Mindful Body, we have lots of studies where we put the mind in strange places and take measures that seem to justify the notion that it's one unit.
I think this ties onto mindfulness, you talk about in the book and I would love for you to explain what you mean when you say that.
Okay so look at both parts of that and as I describe in The Mindful Body prediction is an illusion.
