I know one of the things he wrote a lot about in his book in 1976 was Homer's Iliad because he's kind of like, here's proof right here...

So that was Odysseus talking to Athena. Now that's actually not from the Odyssey, it's from the Iliad as translated by Robert Fagels.

If we remember the story of Achilles, you know, the great Greek warrior who fought at Troy.

And one of them is Homer who wrote The Iliad and The Odyssey.

Iliad to put it feels to me a bit like the situation where McGregor came in, had some fights against guys that were okay, but was a star, then took that turn where he knocked out Jose Aldo, and then the sky was the limit for him.

There's a scene in the Iliad where one of the heroes kind of walks from ship to ship because he's so huge and he is able to transmit himself from the prow to the next prow.

So to take the first chapter of the book, which is about courage, Homer's Iliad, this extraordinary work.

Homer realized that when he saw soldiers marching into war they sang songs and those songs made them feel brave, why did those songs make them feel brave, well those songs made them feel part of a larger voice.

And that's a scientific power of song we know that to be the case that when people sing together in choirs they feel braver, they feel more courageous.

And so what Homer did is he said well what if I could give you that power of singing without you actually singing.

And that's of course what the Ilya does it makes you believe that you are listening to the song of a god, sing goddess of the anger.

And I wanted, you know, the long one, The Odyssey. Iliad and The Odyssey.

Iliad see Odyssey. Yeah, like I read that. Jesus Christ. That's an important story about the journey home.

The Iliad is fantastic in its detail. And the rise in violence and the cutting between Troy and the Greek encampment and the depictions of Hector and his wife and child are just so exquisite.

And Achilles weeps and gives it to him. And it's just an extraordinary scene. Tender humanity. I'm sobbing remembering it. It is so beautiful.
