Most people heard my name for the first time during COVID and didn't know anything about me, maybe made some assumptions based on the decisions that I was making.

And I think it's important that for people to understand the decisions that I make, they have to know a little bit about me. The way I grew up, I think, was pretty special.

There's a lot of life lessons I learned from my family, my faith and in the ranch.

And I think it is some of those lessons that that helped South Dakota and myself do what we've done the last couple of years that I believe really is an inspiration to the rest of the country here in South Dakota.

I wouldn't actually make all the same arguments the same way that I did back then, but I do think we were ahead of the curve in realizing this growing a liberalism, this sort of political correctness now called cancel culture where we're putting restrictions on people's ability to speak and to think and to express themselves in ways that I think would have been, that certainly 1960s liberals wouldn't have supported.
