contentment great storytelling amazing lights out illustrations in this book fabulous kids book and we know that kids that are read to have a higher IQ have a higher likelihood of exceeding academically in all areas kids that are read to it is magical what happens when you read to little children and so i read to the grand babies all the time even though i still have trouble getting through dr zeuss with my tongue twisters but but i can still do it i don't like green eggs and ham sam i am i'm just saying okay you memorized it by now yes but the um but it and we the they learned pretty quick which ones are the long ones so they can stick they love that is not a long one it doesn't take long to get through this so that's good news parents love that the other thing we know is that kids that are grateful and kids that are content grow to become excellent adults and as my friend andy andrew says we're not trying to raise great kids we're trying to raise kids that become great adults and that's the whole process there all of this is at ramsey solutions dot com check it out i had our store you can get any of these books pre-order order whatever we're doing here it's up ken's new book pre-order both there we go uh crystals with us in new york hi crystal welcome to the ramsey show hi thank you thank you so much for taking my call how are you better than i deserve how can we help i really need your advice um to give you a little background i have a full-time job and i take care of a sibling that has mental disabilities now last year i started my llc because i wanted to supplement my income while working at home now so far i spent close to ten thousand dollars on my llc and i haven't made any money yet i put off creating my website because i had to save four thousand dollars to have it created because i'm not tech savvy you don't need four thousand dollars to create a website you can use wix and do it for free i mean there's no need to go spend all this money on this business that has no revenue so far but continue okay um now because i am i am very bad with budgeting money as you probably already know but now the icing on the cake is i have a medical condition that's going to need long-term care so when i reached out to different insurance companies the underwriters they don't want to touch it so my question is should i continue to pursue my small business or take that money and put it in a banking account for my long-term care that i know i'm going to eventually need okay uh how long from now do you think you're going to be needing long-term care um the doctors are unsure because they don't know why i have my condition 25 years or 25 months oh i'm sorry what happened 25 years or 25 months um it could be five five years okay all right so you got a little some time this is not imminent then okay um well i i think the answer is if the LLC is making money it's going to make you more money than bank account will make but so far it's not done anything but take money so we've got to get it making money or we can't depend on it right right what is it what is your side gig what are you trying to build here voiceover voice over yes okay all right and you've done that kind of work before oh no um i've always wanted to do something with my voice but never knew how to go about doing it and the last you took a took a class in the in the summertime and really enjoyed it loved it what did you spend the ten thousand dollars on oh the actual course which is like six thousand dollars where they train you and then um creating my actual LLC i had a company do it for me because they walk walk me through it step by step and then turning my bedroom into the actual studio i had to soundproof it and do you have the equipment to do the work now yes yes i do and why do you not have customers did they teach you how to get customers well i have to do the website first you have to have a website to get customers yes because i have to put the demos on the website to um send it to the client so they can hear me on the website well you could send that over email if you knew the people to contact just send them an mp3 yeah oh right now you need to know the right people i don't think the website is the thing holding you back yeah okay i need you to go get a whole bunch of customers and george is right you can put up a real basic website for almost nothing or nothing okay and you're after talking to you for a few minutes you're smart enough to do it well what's the name of the site you would recommend george again wix wix is a popular one i've used one called square space again all of these you know you're talking zero to a hundred dollars not four grand and truly you can do it yourself yeah i could teach my mom how to use wix wix and we're not endorsing either one of those it's giving you some ideas that this is it's a lot of cut and pace because you're not really trying to create a complicated piece of programming here you're making a business card you just need an electronic business card where you've got some of your demos up there or somebody can push play and play an audio file that's all we're looking for and then of course you're gonna you're gonna deliver most of your stuff by email yes okay so you can deliver demos by email if you got demos laid down in your computer yes okay yes all right so what what i need you to do is i need you go find like a whole bunch of customers in the next 30 days ready set go okay i want you to be overwhelmed because you have so much work you can't breathe and you're a little bit you're a little bit frazzled because there's too much coming at you i want you to get that many customers got you because that's the weak spot in what you're talking about so far all you've done is pay other people for this dream yeah now it's time for you to get paid for the stream and go find people who are doing it and maybe they pass off the ones they don't have time for yeah you get your start that way okay but what do you do full time i'm a correction officer okay how much do you make doing that um my take on is 4,300 a month okay good well the the the voice world has dramatically changed like everything else with a microphone um in the last 20 years because of the digital space that we're in and so i mean it used to be that you had to be a proven product to be able to sit in front of a microphone and now if you want to be a podcaster you can be by the end of the day you know now ai can do voice over yeah and so you gotta compete with that and it used to be that we would mail the the sounders for the radio station to the voice guy and he would send the tape through the mail and we would load the tape we're a long way from that this is a very easy business to get into now and i want you to go get into it big time in the next 30 days ready set go that puts us out of the ramsey show in the books

Episode: Don’t Let a Good Reason Become a Bad Excuse

This book, which was recommended to the caller, is designed to help people figure out what they are good at, what they enjoy, and what results motivate them so that they can find a career path that is a good fit.

"

And I'm going to give you a kind of clue, because I think you have a sense. There's four types of work. If I took every job, every career path in the world, and I put them into four categories, one would be people work, another would be ideas, the other would be process, and then objects. So idea work, right? So Jade and I are in that we're kind of in people and ideas. So our work falls in people and ideas.

And so you could see object work is physical, working with your hands, either creating something or fixing something. So you've got people, ideas, processes. Processes, by the way, engineering-type work, a lot of technical work, organization, things like that.

So in the Get Clear assessment, which I'm going to give you, by the way, and the book, Find the Work You're Wired to Do, so I'm going to give you this as our gift so you can work through this, but you're going to see that one of the six missional results in the assessment is the result of influence, Jade.

So I'm going to give you this as our gift so you can work through this, but you're going to see that one of the six missional results in the assessment is the result of influence, Jade.

And I think that anybody who's in people in process work, one, you're going to see a big theme of you're driven by influence. In fact, the result that you really get motivated for is influencing people, and it's not about hitting the serve. It's not isolated to hitting the serve.

because i wanted to supplement my income while working at home now so far i spent close to ten thousand dollars on my llc and i haven't made any money yet i put off creating my website because i had to save four thousand dollars to have it created because i'm not tech savvy you don't need four thousand dollars to create a website you can use wix and do it for free i mean there's no need to go spend all this money on this business that has no revenue so far but continue okay um now because i am i am very bad with budgeting money as you probably already know but now the icing on the cake is i have a medical condition that's going to need long-term care so when i reached out to different insurance companies the underwriters they don't want to touch it so my question is should i continue to pursue my small business or take that money and put it in a banking account for my long-term care that i know i'm going to eventually need okay uh how long from now do you think you're going to be needing long-term care um the doctors are unsure because they don't know why i have my condition 25 years or 25 months oh i'm sorry what happened 25 years or 25 months um it could be five five years okay all right so you got a little some time this is not imminent then okay um well i i think the answer is if the LLC is making money it's going to make you more money than bank account will make but so far it's not done anything but take money so we've got to get it making money or we can't depend on it right right what is it what is your side gig what are you trying to build here voiceover voice over yes okay all right and you've done that kind of work before oh no um i've always wanted to do something with my voice but never knew how to go about doing it and the last you took a took a class in the in the summertime and really enjoyed it loved it what did you spend the ten thousand dollars on oh the actual course which is like six thousand dollars where they train you and then um creating my actual LLC i had a company do it for me because they walk walk me through it step by step and then turning my bedroom into the actual studio i had to soundproof it and do you have the equipment to do the work now yes yes i do and why do you not have customers did they teach you how to get customers well i have to do the website first you have to have a website to get customers yes because i have to put the demos on the website to um send it to the client so they can hear me on the website well you could send that over email if you knew the people to contact just send them an mp3 yeah oh right now you need to know the right people i don't think the website is the thing holding you back yeah okay i need you to go get a whole bunch of customers and george is right you can put up a real basic website for almost nothing or nothing okay and you're after talking to you for a few minutes you're smart enough to do it well what's the name of the site you would recommend george again wix wix is a popular one i've used one called square space again all of these you know you're talking zero to a hundred dollars not four grand and truly you can do it yourself yeah i could teach my mom how to use wix wix and we're not endorsing either one of those it's giving you some ideas that this is it's a lot of cut and pace because you're not really trying to create a complicated piece of programming here you're making a business card you just need an electronic business card where you've got some of your demos up there or somebody can push play and play an audio file that's all we're looking for and then of course you're gonna you're gonna deliver most of your stuff by email yes okay so you can deliver demos by email if you got demos laid down in your computer yes okay yes all right so what what i need you to do is i need you go find like a whole bunch of customers in the next 30 days ready set go okay i want you to be overwhelmed because you have so much work you can't breathe and you're a little bit you're a little bit frazzled because there's too much coming at you i want you to get that many customers got you because that's the weak spot in what you're talking about so far all you've done is pay other people for this dream yeah now it's time for you to get paid for the stream and go find people who are doing it and maybe they pass off the ones they don't have time for yeah you get your start that way okay but what do you do full time i'm a correction officer okay how much do you make doing that um my take on is 4,300 a month okay good well the the the voice world has dramatically changed like everything else with a microphone um in the last 20 years because of the digital space that we're in and so i mean it used to be that you had to be a proven product to be able to sit in front of a microphone and now if you want to be a podcaster you can be by the end of the day you know now ai can do voice over yeah and so you gotta compete with that and it used to be that we would mail the the sounders for the radio station to the voice guy and he would send the tape through the mail and we would load the tape we're a long way from that this is a very easy business to get into now and i want you to go get into it big time in the next 30 days ready set go that puts us out of the ramsey show in the books

have time for yeah you get your start that way okay but what do you do full time i'm a correction officer okay how much do you make doing that um my take on is 4,300 a month okay good well the the the voice world has dramatically changed like everything else with a microphone um in the last 20 years because of the digital space that we're in and so i mean it used to be that you had to be a proven product to be able to sit in front of a microphone and now if you want to be a podcaster you can be by the end of the day you know now ai can do voice over yeah and so you gotta compete with that and it used to be that we would mail the the sounders for the radio station to the voice guy and he would send the tape through the mail and we would load the tape we're a long way from that this is a very easy business to get into now and i want you to go get into it big time in the next 30 days ready set go that puts us out of the ramsey show in the books

"

So you got to have a little celebration after tax season. I'm Glad for Where I Am a new book on gratitude for your kiddos and Lauren did a great job with these.

So when I was writing I was like how do you teach it because graduate contentment gratitude generosity or like three principles that are really important for me to teach my kids and just kind of that that emotional side of money. And when you think about gratitude with kids I'm like you know of course like saying thank you and manners like all of that is important. But for these little ones I'm like when you can start to grasp the things that that can't be taken away from you. You know this idea of like the love of your family your home not just your house but the home the environment when you can start there and that be the foundation at which they learn gratitude I think a sweet so the little animals they go on an adventure to learn that really where they belong is where they where they were and God specifically has put them in a place for a certain time and the more grateful you are the more your heart grows is the last is the last little sentence of the book but it's really sweet. It's a great one.

It'll be fun. It comes out a week from now and you're going to do a little book tour with it right.

So at seven o'clock I'll do a big reading. My kids will be there and all of it. So you can get that link if you pre-order. And so you can go to RachelCruise.com for that.

It was described as very different from other books by the author and a very personal and vulnerable book.

"

Henry and I inside baseball are good friends.

And Henry and I inside baseball are good friends. We spend a lot of time together. Our wives do. And last winter he sent me a manuscript and I was sitting and reading it and tears running down my face.

And I went, Henry this is a different Henry Cloud book. This is way different than anything you've done.

The new book is out. It is officially a national bestseller. It came out a couple of weeks ago. Why I Believe, a Psychologist's Thoughts on Suffering, Miracles, Science, and Faith. This book is different for you and it was real personal, real vulnerable for you wasn't it?

It was very vulnerable. I never had done that before. You know I write books on psychology and business and and sometimes how faith interacts with that. Never had written one on faith.

Episode: Don’t Be Another Statistic in the Debt Disaster

Boundaries is a book written by Dr. Henry Cloud, a psychologist, who is known for his work on relationships and business.

"

Also one of my best friends in the world is a guy named Dr. Henry Cloud that wrote a book called Boundaries and he's a good friend of John's as well well-known psychologist. Boundaries is what made Henry a household name for some of you.

Episode: Set Boundaries & Stop the Pattern of Stupidity!

The book discussed the idea of boundaries and how people who don't respect boundaries feel entitled to others' time, money and resources. This is often seen when a person sets a boundary and is met with resistance, and the person with the entitlement will attempt to push the boundary.

"

Henry Cloud talks about this in his classic book, Boundaries, that when someone doesn't respect your boundaries, it means they feel entitled to walk in your yard to take your money, to they feel entitled to your money.

And then when you set a boundary with a boundary-less person, roughly 100% of the time it pisses them off, almost every time, right?

So once you say, you can't play in the yard, it's my yard and you can't come over here. There's a fence here. You should stay on your side of the fence. That's a boundary, in other words.

Then the people who have gotten used to treating your yard like it's their yard, they go, oh, but we like playing in your yard.

And so no, you can't play in my checkbook anymore. There's not room for both of us. And so I'm gonna declare it mine and I'm gonna close the gate. The gate was open and now the gate's closed.

Dr. Henry Cloud's book "Boundaries" was mentioned by Dave Ramsey to illustrate the importance of establishing boundaries when someone violates them.

"

So I know that that's a fun way to put it.

Well I mean they teach you how to come back and do the confrontation and give you you know because basically what we're talking about here is a boundaries violation and the first thing that happens when someone violates your boundaries whoever we are our friend Dr Henry Cloud of course wrote the consument book on that boundaries but you feel like you did something wrong you feel crazy.

Episode: Sacrifice Isn’t Easy but It’s Always Worth It

This book was mentioned as a study of 750 millionaires, which was later expanded upon by Dave Ramsey's study of over 10,000 millionaires. It was criticized for its sample size, but was ultimately found to be statistically significant.

"

Tom Stanley, my friend who passed away several years ago in 1992, did a book called The Millionaire Next Door.

He came to his conclusions with a sample size of 750 millionaires.

He was a Georgia State University professor when he did that and sold enough of those books to become a millionaire next door.

But he got criticized because of the sample size by journalism students who had never had a statistics class.

If you've ever had a statistics class, you would know that a sample size of 750 out of approximately at that time 10 million millionaires in North America is statistically significant.

Episode: If You Can’t Pay for It, Don’t Buy It!
