The Daily Stoic

The book basically follows a series of philosophical conversations that Scott has with his two precocious sons Rex and Hank.

It takes us on a journey through classic and contemporary philosophy powered by questions like, what do we have the right to do? When is it okay to do this or that?

They explore punishment and authority and sex and gender and race and the nature of truth and knowledge and the existence of God and the meaning of life.

Scott just does an incredible job writing this book.

Even if you don't have kids it's just a great philosophy book.

He sent me this beautiful coffee book a couple years ago that's on my coffee table actually called Vanishing Asia.

I was actually reading them with my three year old who knows you can't read and he was just like enthralled just the pictures are incredible.

He's got some great books as well that are worth reading. Love your enemies, the conservative heart, the road to freedom, gross national happiness and his first book Who Really Cares, which is about charitable giving.

Yeah, in fact Robert Chaldini who wrote the book influence which is probably in the top 10 books I think people could benefit from reading he talks a lot about how you would go in and do that and how to spot when people are doing it and I feel like every high school student should read that book because they'd be more effective in their careers but they'd also be harder to program and influence without knowing they're being influenced

I loved this book.

This was one of the first books that I thought of because it's a really accessible, practical book. It's what philosophy is supposed to do. It's supposed to change how we think about what we do and make us better at what we do and hopefully make us better citizens in the world.

I was flipping back through the book. I must have read the book in college because I have like a used college edition that I don't remember, but I read it many years ago and as I was going back through, there's this one little section where you talk about how you got all your tools or how you paid for all of them or something.

Annie Duke Angela Duckworth had recommended Super Forecasters yep right and and they and that whole pin group brilliant people that's in the decision making and psychology decision making but I had never read it so it's a little bit older book but there's an element of what we do in especially in player personnel right decisions where you have these large staffs and right we're all we have these independent opinions and trying to right have you read Fooled by Randomness

He's written a bunch of fascinating books, What Technology Wants out of control new rules for the new economy, the inevitable.

you wrote one called The Grand Design
