Julian Jaynes wrote this classic back in 1976 called The Origin of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind and one of the things that's great about it is that it's a beautifully written book.

And one of the most interesting books I've read is The History of Manners by Norbert Elias.

And it's a history of manners in the Western world from the middle ages until the present. And the fascinating thing is in the middle ages, if you wanted to cook something, you would cut up the animal carcass in front of your friends.

In the middle ages, it was completely normal for friends and family to have sex in front of each other.

Knights would write poetry about how much they loved the act of killing.

Have you ever read escaping Flatland?

So it's a book from the 1800s and it is about a sphere that goes to visit a two-dimensional world of Flatland. So in the two-dimensional world you have different shapes and the shapes didn't know to the class. Well, this is Abbott's book Flatland. Yes. Is this beyond that? No, but it's also referred to as escaping Flatland.

At his funeral, he gave everybody a copy of Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda.

David senra from founders recently tagged me in something where it was there's two kinds of people on the internet um one that doesn't understand the scale of the internet and the other the other people that know they don't understand the scale of the internet and he then quoted me and I was like I didn't realize I said that but I go that's good so there's no way back and found it I did say right so there's two ways that this happens as well the first one is you get quoted by someone saying a thing that you forgot that you'd said that's level one level infinity is you get quoted by people who attribute quotes to you that you never said because it seems like it fits.

One of my favorite books ever is The Great Wave by David Hackett Fisher. And he uses inflation to predict this. You can look at inflation rates to predict when these crises happen.

But the three variables are income inequality, decline in average wages, and competition for elite jobs. These three variables can predict when societies have revolutions to the years they take place in.
