Episode: E404 Natalie Responds to Shayne w/ Allison Raskin

Allison explained that the book explores the intersection of mental health and dating, offering expert interviews and practical advice for navigating relationships while managing anxiety, OCD, and ADHD.

"

You wrote an amazing book called Overthinking About You, about the intersection between mental health and dating.

I mean mental health has always been a big part of my life ... I realized that suddenly my relationship with dating was different, I had done this work on myself where I had better coping skills, more selfesteem and a better vocabulary to explain how my disorders manifest.

The book is actually filled with all of these expert interviews with different mental health professionals, psychiatrists, sex therapists, dating coaches, reallife couples, and we talk about things like how to talk about medication side effects, how to tell if anxiety is relationshipbased, and when to bring up mentalhealth topics on a date.

I actually got engaged while I was writing it, and then six months later he walked out on me with no explanation. That horrible experience became the first guineapig of the lessons in the book.

My original last chapter was titled 'How do you make a relationship last' and featured an interview with my exfiance; after he left I completely rewrote that chapter into 'How do you not give up', turning the breakup into a core takeaway of the book.
