And it turns out it's not just required reading here in the u.s It's a pretty well-known book or premise in australia, too And minus the pregnancy aspect because spoiler alert the autopsy confirms beth was not pregnant The rest sounds kind of similar to this story or it's an affair right at its heart So they think that a could stand for adulterer.

And the great book that nailed this was the Scarlet Letter.

You lived the Scarlet Letter, you know, a prophetical book about how we need to deal with issues of judgment and shaming and all that stuff.

I've talked about that book before I there is nothing that I have read that is but I would rather read the dictionary than that book ever again.

When you then read The Scarlet Letter and read Hester Prynne and see the parallels between Sarah Maria Cornell and Hester Prynne, it seems really clear that she was at least a very large inspiration, if not the main inspiration, for The Scarlet Letter.
