Probably from the beginning. My dad, that was kind of how he presented the story to me about Ben and his father as the Invisible Generals.

If you actually have read the book then you know it's a fantastic body of work and if you haven't read the book just based off the headlines then you are really missing just a great body of work.

A great body of work that is showing their vulnerability and is on a path and a journey to worthiness.

If you've ever dealt with any type of imposter syndrome in your life and you're trying to get to a place of Worthy, you would really, really enjoy her book.

I just want to say it's much more easier to spread negative energy. And Jay The Pinkett Book is an awesome read. Yes, it is. Man, I cried in it. I laughed in it and I feel her pain and I just want to say healing energy for her and our family.

It's a journey of healing. It's a journey of somebody trying to find their worthiness, which is, you know, all of us have struggled with that.

It takes a lot of courage to sit in your truth. It takes a lot of courage. It takes a lot of courage to be happy.

Your happiness is your response to responsibility. If you expect others to make you happy, you will always be disappointed.

People can assist in your happiness, but they can't make you happy.

Worthy is when you can really be 10 toes down on your self-love. When you can be your own individual in regards to like you wake up in the morning by yourself, you look in the mirror and you are enough.

other people's opinion of you, whether it's good or bad should not be grounds in which you base your self-worth. Your value is inherent within you. What matters the most is whether you know you are Worthy.

Can you love somebody forever? No matter what?

a lot of people might not know, but he proposed to you while he was in jail. I talk about this in the book when I go to see him in Rikers, when I wrote about that in the book and when I had to talk about it, speak my words for the audible version of the book.

And he was in he was he was in he was he was he was in bad shape. And so when he asked me to get married, he was at Rikers. And I knew at that time that a he needed somebody to do time with him, which I was going to do anyway. You have to marry me to do.

I feel like adversity was the biggest teacher for me, right? Adversity taught me so much man, every time I lost I just walked out of there and I'm just like okay what did I learn and I started to break down you know how I was learning and it was basically through all my losses like I learned every time I wasted money I learned every time I wasted a relationship I learned every time you know I wasted my time and my energy on something and I'm sitting here and I'm going like when you look at the world everybody shows you how they winning how they succeed but I'm riding how I'm living you'll never talk about what they lost right so you see the finished product and that's why the instant gratification comes because everybody feel like they can walk outside and be you tomorrow that's where the hate come from really because you feel like I can stand beside you and be you tomorrow but you ain't went through what I went through so adversity to me is just like I would rather focus on that than saying I won't right I'd rather sell you all the times I lost because that's what a value was for me so I'd rather sell you that you know what I'm saying than anything else but you gotta believe you know I can give you the adversity but you have to believe I mean that part is so separately you know what I'm saying that ain't got nothing to do with me

When I when I when I heard that they were doing a movie based off this book, I was like, how are they going to make a movie based off Cast? Like if it's not a documentary because the book is just full of facts and research.

But she did it through the lens of Isabelle Wilkerson getting the idea to write the book Cast in the process of her writing the book.

And like you said, it's it's based off, I guess, different things that happened in the past, what, six, seven years? No. What's your research? No. What was it? The book is what, Cast? Yeah. What is the research on?

It is based off the system that we live in and how how the system of race was developed in the country, in America.

I started reading it over the holidays when I was on vacation. And it's one of those books that I've gotten a lot through it. But you keep going back because you're going to have your highlighter. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Constantly going through it.

I think there is a way because first of all, there's a lot of smart black people who you can communicate with who also know like regular people like me and you who know how to write and write and write and overlay information.

You created a book that's super smart, but it's also highly entertaining. I don't think it's dumbed down at all.

The book is a look at America through black people's eyes. So we've seen books about black people through black people's eyes and history books about America through the white lens. But this is about America through black people's eyes.

And it's funny, you know, because I wrote the book like how we talk to each other. So, you know, we could be at a funeral and be like, oh God, I can't believe she wore that hat. That's right. And so, you know, it uses humor. It uses the way we talk to each other and it shows and it pulls no punches and unwhite washes the mythology that we always been taught to believe since we got into social studies class.

I thought I was cursed because I grew up Jehovah's Witness. My grandmother's Jehovah's Witness and religious. And Eve was the one who made the evil happen in the world. She gave the apple to Adam.

What you reveal, you can heal.

The hardest? I think being really vulnerable about my drinking for real, because I talked about it when I was on the talk. I talked about it. Yes, I had an issue, but I don't even think I actually admitted it to myself.

Honestly, my DUI. My DUI was the time that not even just the moment of the DUI, it was when I couldn't drink. So I had 56 days where I couldn't drink. And I was so scared of that 56 days because I couldn't remember a time where I hadn't drank.

At the start, I definitely tried to write it like an interview and Cathy actually checked me on that because she was like, look, I don't wanna take you back to trauma but you need to emote for people to understand where you're coming from.

I feel real naked.

I definitely was like, do I really want to put this stuff out here? But I was like, I think it's important. I think it's important for myself. I think it's important for my kid.

What you reveal you can heal.

The hardest? If anything. No, there was yeah, listen, I tried...we was editing kind of and then I was like, fuck it, um, lots of it. I think being really vulnerable about my drinking, for real.

I was so nervous, I was so angst, and I'm an anxiety-ridden person, which is why I drink and smoke so much weed to try to chill myself out.

I was in a place in my life where I wasn't going to those tools of drinking and doing other things to help me cope with my anxieties.

I had to go to other modalities like therapy as people will read it all was my stuff has nothing to do with her.

It was all these things coming from the industry I think also had a lot to do with it of being the one female you know thinking like well how can she be here and how can I be here which is stupid.

I was in a place in my life where I wasn't going to those tools of drinking and doing other things to help me cope with my anxieties.

I had to go to other modalities like therapy as people will read it all was my stuff has nothing to do with her.

dear Eve, the various things that you share recently are groundbreaking in my opinion for so many reasons first thank you the love of grace the love of emotion and spirituality maturity it takes to be this vulnerable and transparent is a sign of true peace happiness fulfillment and a mastery of self-control and self-discipline

I was one of the kids in New York watching Rough Riders on TV I definitely remember how when you took the game by storm that there were some people who couldn't hide their insecurities even though it's swept under the rug now I remember that you handled it with grace but also a big sprinkle of unapologetic talent and charisma you soared and soared classic music with the illest team into the biggest screen and made it look too easy

This game-change, the book title is perfect for you because there's not too many people on this planet who come with good intentions like Wallo.

The book change your life. That's right. And you got to book the book.

I did 20. I did 20, uh, penitentiary, um, five years and then I'll do one out system.

So I see when I was in prison, I'm like, we can plan in the, we don't, I'm like, We inside these white folks spot, ain't nobody coming.

That's why you gotta read this book. It was deep, man.

It's about that armor that you know at one point in time it might it might serve as a defense mechanism. It might you know protect you but as we move through life and you get into different spaces you start to interact with different people and you know you're now you in these different dynamics they no longer service in the same way.

Um you know if if one person is able to see themselves and you know better understand themselves or better understand you know their their path their their lived experience if this is going to be you know an entree into someone else being able to start to work through their stuff and you know shed some of those layers of of armor that are no longer useful you know what I mean um those layers of of callous and and scar tissue then uh yeah then it's a win and I've already you know experienced that you know I've already had some of those conversations so I feel this book has already been helpful.

You know, essentially it's about putting those parts of ourselves, of our past, you know what I'm saying, that are no longer going to serve us or no longer going to serve us in the same way to a different use, you know what I'm saying, to a better use.

It was really, you know, a cathartic sort of experience and more so than I'd expected.

Our lives are our response to the call of our childhoods.

It's about confronting, you know, our demons, you know, head on.

So much of who I am. So much of my identity is associated with my Philadelphia-ness.
