So what the book describes is a network of autocrats. It's not an alliance. There isn't a secret room where they all meet and make decisions.

And we're talking about a specific group of countries who, we're talking about Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, Belarus, and a handful of others, who are led by people who don't believe that they should have any checks on their power. They should have total impunity. They should be able to do whatever they want. They shouldn't be stopped by media, by judges, by lawyers, by courts, and of course not by voters either. And so they have this vision of absolute power.

And that's because he instinctively, I don't know if he frames it this way in his mind, but he instinctively admires their ability to get away with whatever they want.

And this is the argument of my recent book was Autocracy, Inc., is that it's a mistake to look at the world's autocrats, even when they have different ideologies, you know, Russia and China and Iran and North Korea, Venezuela and Azerbaijan.

And this is this is a great follow up to your last extraordinary work, which you say you say in your defense, your books do usually have happy endings. If we want them to have happy endings, they will have happy.

It takes effort to create the happy ending. It doesn't happen automatically. There's no law of history that gives it to us.

And I think something different happened, that some of the ideas and especially the corruption of the autocratic world instead came in our direction. And that's what my book is about.

How do we convince people that autocracy is safe and stable and secure and democracy is divided and chaotic and degenerate or even sexually degenerate? And people put a lot of money and effort into writing those stories and pushing them out in lots of different ways and convincing people of them.

So it was actually often changes of ownership. It wasn't direct censorship like in the olden days.

She's also the author of several books, including most recently Autocracy, Inc., which examines how modern autocracies cooperate to maintain power.
