So Margaret Atwood, of course, wrote the wildly overrated sci-fi dystopian novel, Handmaid's Tale.

She was a feminist icon until she assumed that women existed. Whoops.

When I was in Columbia, whatever it was now, 15 years, a million years ago, 15 years ago, this was it, right? like Edward Said's Orientalism, you know, the idea that all of the sort of maladies of the Middle East could be blamed on Israel or America, that was the only idea that you encountered in the Middle East Studies Department.

Howard Zinn was a professor at Boston University. He wrote a very bad book called The People's History of the United States. It is cribbed from a bunch of other sources, frankly, and it's filled with a lot of pseudo-history.

Zinn was a communist, or at least a communist fellow traveler, and so much of his writing is rooted in an almost Soviet view of American history as just completely evil top to bottom dominated by capitalist rapaciousness.

The Revolt of the Public. It is from 2014. And the thesis of the book is basically that the reason that you see so much populist disdain for the elites is because there was a promise that was made over the course of the 20th century that was a complete lie.
