Art is not about thinking something up. It is about the opposite, getting something down.

When we get something down, there is no strain. We're not doing, we're getting something.

Episode: 6 Ways To Stop Getting Distracted and Start Gettin...

Jay Shetty read a passage from the book about the importance of 'getting something down' rather than 'thinking something up' in the creative process, as a way of illustrating how books can inspire.

"

Just as I'm speaking to you about this, I have a book here on my table. It's The Complete Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.

So I'm going to opening up that bookmark says week seven, recovering a sense of connection. We turn this week to the practice of right attitudes for creativity. The emphasis is on your receptive as well as active skills.

Listening, which we're you're doing right now. The ability to listen is a skill we are honing with both our morning pages and our artist dates.

The pages train us to hear past our sensor. The artist dates help us to pick up the voice of inspiration. While both of these activities are apparently unconnected to the actual act of making art, they are critical to the creative process.

Art is not about thinking something up. It is about the opposite, getting something down. The directions are important here. If we are trying to think something up, we're straining to reach for something that's just beyond our grasp up there in the stratosphere where art lives on high.

And so we have this belief that we are limited, basically in a nutshell, that we're a limited individual, that we're born and then we die. And that's kind of it.

And I think the majority of people would consider that they're a body and a mind and the name that they've been given and the story of their life.

The moment that you say like our mind can't comprehend awareness, it can't comprehend it. The mind is sitting in awareness.

And so and so the really beautiful thing is, is that saying something like I am awareness or am I aware? The mind just goes quiet, you know, just really quickly.
