My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

By 1997, there's about a quarter of a million participants worldwide. Wow. The same year Gwen publishes the book version of her diet, it's called the Weigh Down Workshop and it's an instant hit.

Now what's crazy is in the HBO series, they spell it the Weigh Down, W-A-Y.

And they show old Nashville local news where they're showing like, they're basically about to do a story about her, but they go to the bookstore and there's so many Christian diet books and basically like, God will help you lose this weight.

Perhaps because among all disasters, famines are by far the slowest moving. They are particularly able to undermine more elevated human feelings.

Honesty and generosity don't disappear in famines, but they become harder to find when people go without food.

Only in rare cases was there absolutely nothing to eat.

He launches a publishing company that puts out magazines, manga, and books, including one book called Declaring Myself the Christ, where he, you guessed it, declares himself the Christ.

It's called Isaac's Storm.

It's called Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. And it's like a whodunit murder story. But the whodunit, the way she finds out is by, she goes back in time.

So she wants to, the mom wants to solve her son's crime. It's kind of like a little bit of different twist.

And it's a really cool thing of like, what are you not paying attention to in your life that you should be?

What Dr. Lohan calls the Sundown Town Movement started in the United States at the end of the 19th century and it continued through the 60s and it was a movement that was led by white people.

And what Dr. Lohan found was white people attempted to drive anyone of color, black, brown, indigenous, Mexican, Chinese, Jewish people out of their all white communities using intimidation and violence.

So if a non-white person was seen in a town after dark, they might be denied services, they could be harassed, they could be killed.

And so what he found was that there were perhaps as many as 15,000 independent towns plus another 2,000 to 10,000 suburbs that could be classified as Sundown Towns.

White residents feeding and maintaining a culture of persecution, violence, and discrimination resulting in a dearth of diversity and a community that tolerates hatred and violence is Dr. Lohan says in his book, Martinsville's not unusual for the most part, precisely what is so alarming about Sundown Towns, their astonishing prevalence across this country has made them not newsworthy except on special occasions.

The documentary I watched over the weekend was the 2022 Netflix documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe The Unheard Tapes which is based on the book by Anthony Summers.

It's a 1985 biography called Goddess.

Because you won't finish the back pain book. You're a third of the way through it, like I am with every single book I read.

No one reads past the first third of any self-help book. They just don't.

I ordered this book Mudlarked by Malcolm Russell because it's basically his history of mudlarking.

Mudlarking for those who don't know is basically digging through dirt.

And it's like a lovely coffee table size book.

And then it says hidden histories from the river Thames.

I read a really good book recently called God Shot by Chelsea Biker, B-I-E-K-E-R.

And it's basically this little girl whose family kind of joins a religious cult.

I highly recommend it.

In June, 2017, Gemma published her book, My Sister Millie.

She writes in it that quote, if Millie hadn't been such a great little person, it would have been easier to let her pass, but she was exactly that great.

And as the emblem she became, Millie has an immense power.

I use that power in the hope that telling our story will help stop other families suffering what happened to us.
