I talked to the always awesome Ezra Klein, who's been a friend of mine for 20 years, about his new book with Derek Thompson called Abundance. And we discussed the need to reorient some of the old political arguments to new realities and about how we got to our current state of Trump declared emergency.

He told me about his experiences talking to Jewish students about the campus protests and the sheer cynical manipulation by mainstream institutions abusing the charge of antiSemitism.

And so you have people at Yale Law school, you have women who think that truly the liberationist path is to spend 90 hours a week working in a cubicle at McKinsey instead of starting a family and having children.

To me what it is is sort of a value system to replace the fact that they're all fundamentally extraagnostic, they have no real value system, their only value system is achieve in a very conventional way.

And so the idea that somehow they're pursuing racial or gender equity is like the value system that gives their life meaning, clearly this value set has made me a miserable person who can't have kids because I already you know past the biological period when it was possible.

I didn't read Hillbilly Elegy when it came out, and so I didn't read it through the filter of the discourse at the time, I read it when he reemerged as a presidential or vice presidential prospect.

And that is a book that just seeds with anger, right, and Jeannie Vance is someone who was very ill treated by both of his parents, both of them let him down financially, but the amount of anger that he has at his mother for sort of not fulfilling her maternal role compared to the amount of anger that he has it is is this at his father and put him up for adoption, it's just it's a completely different scale.

So this is not an insignificant win I think this is a candidate who had the right message at the very right time for the right district. She also um she she ran that ad about her own abortion but she also just to show some of the print material obviously in a state ledger race you're mostly doing mailers you're mostly doing that kind of thing people aren't up on the air a lot but she talked about abortion a lot I mean she she really wanted to center a center abortion and again it that feels counterintuitive but it seems to me to say something about where at least this portion of the state is on this on this issue.

Well again it is one of those situations where that area yes has a highly educated population but when the legislature drew that history in 2020 they drew it to be a Republican district remember this is an area an area of the state that gave us magamo books for year after year after year so this is not an insignificant win I think this is a candidate who had the right message at the very right time for the right district.
