He's defending the transing of kids and he's wrong to do that. You actually owe it to J.K. Rowling because she gave you your career, you wouldn't exist in the industry without her.

At the height of the backlash against J.K. One other story here from the Guardian that says, Harry Potter's favorite sport Quidditch is to receive a new name in the US, in part because its leaders are critical of the controversial views of the fictional wizards creator J.K. Rowling, which the US leagues have called antitrans.

And that's why we can't we can't allow J.K. Rowling to be associated with this, even though she created all this.

My God, J.K. Rowling wrote all the Harry Potter books by herself. She sold so many books, the Bible worries about her.

Joy Reid, for example, on MSNBC, she invoked the Handmaid's Tale, which makes me wonder, by the way, what the country might look like if leftists would read some other book besides that and Harry Potter.

This kind of comparison where it's harder to get X than a gun, liberals are doing this all the time, and the comparisons just keep getting more and more ridiculous.

This is the kind of political corruption that you might read about in The Gulag Archipelago.

that acronym for the series of what were called main administration camps the gulag was strung out like an island chain in what one of their residents alexander solzhenitsyn would refer to as The Gulag Archipelago

It comes from Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago, his magnum opus about the Soviet labor camp system.

In one of the volumes, volume one, I believe, he recounts the story of a man who had been arrested on trumped up charges and shipped off to prison. When he was at prison, he was sentenced to death. But by the time the sentence had been handed down, his wife was already on a boat on the way to visit him. And so he begged the guards to delay his execution for a few days so that he could see his wife one last time. They agreed on the condition that he doesn't tell her about his impending execution. And he didn't. He was with her for three days, never mentioned it, never hinted at it. And once she left, he was taken immediately before the firing squad and shot.

Shades of Gulag Archipelago. Your faulty advice is akin to having an army of millions of soldiers and then ordering them to line up and march out single file one by one, minute after minute into gatling gunfire.

It kind of reminds me of, I know I brought up before a great passage in Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago, I think in volume one, where they're talking about, this is all about the Gulag system, the labor camp system in Soviet Russia.

And I guess usually everybody will stand up, they'll give a standing ovation and then they all kind of organically sit back down. But that didn't work that way this time. And it went on for longer than usual. And so now it's getting conspicuous.

i immediately thought of a story that i think i've mentioned before in The Gulag Archipelago soljian easton's book about the uh soviet um labor camp system

one story he tells a lot of stories that really stick out but but one in particular about um a guy who's who's uh in one of these prison camps scheduled to be executed but he convinces the guards to let his wife visit so you can see his wife one last time before he's killed but the deal is that he's not allowed to tell his wife that he's going to be executed

On today's show you mentioned The Gulag Archipelago with Solzhen Easton's Magnum Opus.

There's a book that I know I've mentioned before and that's called The Gulag Archipelago by Solzhenyston. This is his master work, his magnum opus and he had a lot of great opuses, opi maybe is the plural of that. So to say this is his greatest really says something indeed.

The book is not a memoir though, not exclusively anyway. It's also a history of the labor camp system and of Soviet Russia. A chilling read, highly relevant, highly relevant to our current situation and I think one of the many failures of our public school system is that high school kids are not required to read all three volumes of this book or even one volume of it.

It might be too much to ask given that people don't like to read anymore especially read long books but if everyone would just read the first volume I've recommended this book a million times.

If you would just read the first volume of Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago. He wrote a threevolume work talking about his own experience in the Soviet Gulag; it's a fascinating book. I've read the first two volumes, haven't read the third yet, but it'd be great to read all of them. If you could only read one, just read the first volume - there's no way you could finish it and still think a socialist or communist system is a good idea.

You tell them to read The Gulag Archipelago.

the Edmonton Public School Board... decided to ban 1984, The Godfather, Jaws, and so on, in addition to The Handmaid's Tale.

One is that 1984 is one of about three books that the average American has actually read all the way through.

Well, there's two reasons. One is that 1984 is one of about three books that the average American has actually read all the way through. The other two are Harry Potter books.

We're talking books like 1984 by George Orwell, Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and many more.

tonight's book selection is Orwell's famous 1984, quite a timely and topical for his book club each month.

I see more of our current condition in Animal Farm even than I see in 1984.

Animal Farm, which by the way, I think if we're looking for an Orwell comparison and everyone goes to 1984 and there's a lot, there's certainly a lot that's analogous there, many comparisons...

You know, when people use the word Orwellian these days, they're normally referring to the book 1984 which was no doubt prophetic in many ways. But a book that seems even more relevant to our time is Orwell's Animal Farm, his allegorical satire of communism.

let me read this from 1984. George Orwell, of course, and here's a relevant passage says every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue in street building has been renamed, every date has been altered and the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute.

It's kind of like the government funding an adaptation of 1984 - it just doesn't make sense.

All right, so you know C.S. Lewis begins his book, The Screwtape Letters with a quote from, I think it was if I remember correctly, St. Thomas More saying that the devil cannot endure to be mocked and that's why he should be because that's the appropriate response to evil.

And you know, that this is something C.S. Lewis talked about.

And that's he has a description in the screw tape letters, I think, of exactly what they're doing, of precautions getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

This is something C.S. Lewis talked about. He said courage is such a beautiful virtue you can't trick people out of it, so you have to keep them afraid. He has a description in the screw tape letters bigger and bigger and bigger.

I am a former atheist and currently a Christian. I really enjoy C.S. Lewis' books about Christianity, screw tape letters, problem of pain and mere Christianity are all really insightful books that have strengthened my belief.

There's probably multiple books probably maybe ... mere Christianity he talks he talks about the argument from desire where he says that we have a desire for a reality beyond this when have a desire for a truth beyond above ... and he makes the point that we don't develop desires for things that don't exist.

I would recommend if you want to understand Christian theology what we actually believe at a basic level then I think Mere Christianity is a good place to start now Mere Christianity ... is a very simple book and you're not going into complex theological concepts.
