How Sex Changed the Internet and the Internet Changed Sex

An Unexpected History

The book delves into the narrative that sex was an inherent part of the internet from the early days. It was described as tacitly acknowledged but not widely expressed. The author found through intense research that the first form of pornography shared online was likely the equivalent of typing 80085 on a calculator.

Cole found through intense research that the first form of quote unquote pornography shared online was likely the equivalent of typing 80085 on a calculator.

Cole delves into this narrative that I think is tacitly acknowledged but not widely expressed.

Samantha Cole wrote a book called How Sex Changed the Internet and the Internet Changed Sex, an Unexpected History.

And I'm just going to add like now, I mean, there's so many mechanisms that are kind of codified for getting stuff taken down or filters or like bots that scan for, you know, owned intellectual property. And, you know, will automatically pull things down or temporarily pull things down until the poster can prove that they have the rights to the material. But back in these days, it was the Wild West, man. And especially some of these less Internet savvy companies, they probably didn't even know the stuff was out there. They didn't even know they were having their lunch eaten by these new companies. Right.

I mean, please check out Samantha Cole's book if you want to learn more. It is probably one of the best works on this evolution of the Internet and sex.

He is also only one example of a troubling trend. And we have a lot more to discuss, as you set up earlier, Matt. So astutely, there are many, many people who have been doing this grift and getting away with it for a long, long time.

And one of, we want to shout out, the journalist Camille Balook spent three years investigating the case. He has published a book based on his research which has a lot of interviews with Dr. Carbot himself.

And you can also, again if you want to learn more about the doctor from the Netherlands, we spoke about specifically, do check out the book, All Louise Children.
