I was reading Borges on public transit, right, and stopping in a train station. And I turned to look. There was another train across the platform going in a different direction. I turned to look and there was this lady staring at me and I was by the window. He wrote a book called UFOs, Operation Trojan Horse in 1970, and he pointed out something that is fascinating and I would argue true.

He said that these descriptions of encounters with what people perceive to be aliens or extra-terrestrials, they often parallel certain stories or legends in folklore or religious encounters for very spiritual beliefs.

He used this term, ultra-terrestrial, to describe UFO occupants, the people actually inside the ships or the ones that were there that we were observing whatever physical form they took.

He believed them to be non-human entities that were capable of taking on whatever shape, whatever form, whatever thing that they wanted to become.

He's like, look, most of these patients are not spiritually possessed. That is not the case. But he's like, but as a psychiatrist of practicing for decades, I can look at someone and I know the difference between schizophrenia, right? And delusions and someone who has bruises appearing on their body out of nowhere, who is exhibiting incredible strength and speaking Russian all of a sudden when they're not Russian and have no expertise. Like, I know the difference.

I encourage everyone to read his book, Demonic Foes.

In 1915, it really came to a head, this fight against tips, when there were three states, Iowa, South Carolina, and Tennessee, who all passed anti-Tipping laws.

And it mentions in this book, some other anti-Tipping folks who all happen to be millionaires. You got your John D. Rockefellers and Andrew Carnegie's, who, you know, we know about these guys from their history. They didn't get rich by being generous. They got rich by holding it tight in their fists.

Tippied has faded away in many parts of Europe because they said, why don't we just add a service charge? Customers aren't obliged to tip. Why don't we pay the people who live in our country a wage that allows them to live in our country?

And this rocks people. People always wanna save money, right? Including restaurant owners, which we'll get to. And this thing essentially says the millions of Americans who get their money from tips are suffering from a moral malady, a phrase we referenced earlier.
