For the fiction book, my favorite book is Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry... it captures the spirit of Texas better than a lot of other works of art. Y'all have a blast reading it. Won't be able to put it down.

So in the book, a group of cowboys from Texas, cattlemen as they were once called, drives a huge herd of cattle through the great open west, all the way from Texas up to Montana.

The book, which is fiction, takes place in the 1870s.

And the reason we're talking about it is that basically everything about that scene was about to become impossible.

My favorite other big long book that I think is worth reading probably multiple times is Lonesome Dove.

If you've ever seen Lonesome Dove, it's the greatest, I'm sure I've talked about it on the show before, it's the greatest Western of all time. Technically, it was a television miniseries, but I think it still is one of the great films ever made. ... the story follows a group of cowboys on a dangerous cattle drive from Texas to Montana ... along the way they stumble across an old friend ... and they end up hanging the gang ... it was a tragic moment for them. It was a tragic moment for them. They didn't want to kill their friend, but they had no choice. He was owed a certain punishment and justice means giving a man what he's owed.

It reminded me a lot of Lonesome Dove, which is one of my favorite things that's ever, you know, favorite movie.

I think I would certainly put it in the top three. And it's also one of the greatest, I mean, it's certainly one of the greatest television miniseries. I think it's probably the best television miniseries of all time.

Lonesome Dove, Chernobyl, and then Band of Brothers is how I would rate them. But Lonesome Dove, of all the things that have ever been put on film, I'd put it in the top 15, 10, 15 in that cut.

the western miniseries Lonesome Dove happens right after Diane Lane's character is a prostitute named Lori is kidnapped and then terribly abused by an outlaw named Blue Duck. Robert Duvall's character Gus kind of this grizzled old western guy rescues her and later that night when they're sitting together Lori breaks down in tears and says they shouldn't have done that to me Gus they shouldn't have taken me and Gus gives her a hug and pats her shoulder and says I know honey but they did I know they shouldn't have but they did they did.

I've been waiting for just a straightforward Western series a la Lonesome Dove and classic Western, and it was that until it went and fell off the woke cliff.

I was reading a bunch of Western stuff and Western civilization. I read Lonesome Dove for the first time. After I got done with Lonesome Dove, I couldn't get it out of my system.
