It's a sub, sub, sub culture. Let's put it that way.

I wrote a book called One Nation Under Therapy with the psychiatrist Sally Sautel.

Here we are, a therapeutic culture, and that's the narrative favored by many in the media.

Now, as Sally, my psychiatrist co-author, and I wrote, there's nothing wrong with psychiatric self-understanding, but it's limited in terms of the world that it opens to you because safety and cautiousness and self-awareness and so forth are all very important, but there's also glory and there's also spectacle and pursuing greatness, and we admire that as well.

But all of those ideals seem to be falling away for many. They want life to be like a permanent therapy session, and they're desperate for, I guess, some kind of role model of safetyism and therapism.

In our book, I meant to say this before, we strongly supported for those who are in distress, cognitive behavioral therapy. It has one of the best records of success, but not to just become obsessively an obsessive ruminator.

I am a huge proponent of Jason Fung and Jimmy Moore's book, the Complete Guide To Fasting. It is really comprehensive, easy to read, very, very clear on the methodologies and research.

The main theme of authoritarian moment is that every major institution in American life has now been taken over by the left or by people who are at least not unsympathetic to the left and are willing to allow the left control over key elements of the institutions.

Winning the emotional argument is basically a three step process. The first is that you use people's sense of civility against them.

The way that you renormalize an institution... is to be very loud and very aggressive.

Then you lock all the doors. Then you say, well, we can't hire anybody who comes in here and doesn't agree with our corporate principles.

Every offense to particularly quote vulnerable groups, meaning groups defined as vulnerable by the left in a kaleidoscopically changing hierarchy of victimhood represents the possibility of profound offense. Those who engage in such offense must be silenced.

That was before you came out as conservative and completely ruined your relationship with the people who make movies.

Dr. Carson clearly did not wind up being important to you.

So Cuba Gooding played you in the movie years later in 2009, I guess it was.

And I first noticed this guy when I saw the movie, which you probably know by this point I love, No Safe Spaces by Mark Joseph.

The guy from Whole Foods just wrote a terrific book. What's his name? Is it John McKay? Yeah, Mackey. Mackey, right. Conscious Capitalism was his first when he wrote something called Conscious Leadership, I think is his second one.

I loved my spouse very much. I tolerated much more than I ever should have.

And I do write about a number of very difficult situations that I faced both as a young woman and as an adult woman, as a spouse.

And I was just so ashamed of all of these situations and things that while I had no control over them, they're not things that you talk about in polite society, which is unfortunate, I think, because we carry those scars and those pains for so long.

But I had a woman that came to me after a little get together. And she said, Joni, you serve as a battalion commander. You are a United States senator. She said, you need to talk about this because women or others, men are raped and assaulted too.

He is something that is increasingly rare these days, which is an honest intellectual, someone who has not cowed by the social media hordes and the Nikole Hannah-Jones types and hasn't been over his 50-plus year career as a public intellectual.

He is someone who has followed the facts where they lead, told the truth even when it was politically incorrect, even when it was unpopular.

And you talk in the book and in the documentary about how this guy had zero advantages in his upbringing.

But yet he wound up at the University of Chicago. He started off as a Marxist.

He's someone who was born with a lot of disadvantages during the Great Depression in the Jim Crow South.

White Women. Everything you already know about your own racism and how to do better.

But number two, he's written a very cool new book on Jack Ruby on the assassination by Jack Ruby. He's the guy who killed Oswald after Oswald killed JFK. Remember? And so he's taken a deep dive into that case to figure out what really happened.

And I think you'll find the discussion really interesting. So pack show for you today. So we're going to kick things off with Saurabh Amari in one second. He's the one who has just authored this book, which is tearing it up.

And he's got a series on interesting legal cases that have been, I don't know, ignored or forgotten. The latest is called Kennedy's Avenger.

Kennedy's Avenger Assassination Conspiracy and the Forgotten Trial of Jack Ruby.

It's hard to imagine the hugeness of this. You know, a president assassinated. Right. And then the guy who the police say did it gets assassinated himself two days later on camera.

There's, there's a professor at university of Maryland, Liliana Mason. And she's wrote a, she wrote a book about this based off some research she did called, uh, I think it's something like where politics becomes identity or something like that.

There's been there's not been a shortage of blunders in response to COVID, but public denialism and malfeasance are not major contributors, not right to the blunders. Rather, it is the weaponization of a public health crisis to invoke panic in an election year that resulted in the greatest consequences which will be felt for years to come.

I don't believe this was intentional. I believe that I think that accidents in these labs happen. This wouldn't be the first time it's happened and resulted in epidemic. It's actually happened before. I talk about it in the book.

It's described by two Chinese colonels who wrote the book on Unrestricted Warfare in 1999, and have published an update to that.

There's a really good book called Galloway was middle finger by a woman named Alice Drager. I believe Katie sends it to people who get sort of publicly shamed. And it's about what happens on the left if you're seen as crossing certain lines. And most of the book is about the horrific rumors that get spread against people, often with no proof for for doing this.

John Grisham's old book, Painted House is a fictional account of that.

And it's really aging and how much pressure there is not to do it.

The whole reason that that, you know, I wrote this second book was because of that, you know, that one chapter in the first book, Fame, where, you know, all the attacks I've gotten,

And then I thought, well, why do we even think that way about women's older Faces? So that's where the second book came from.

I love it at Face one square foot of skin and about aging.

And it's such a, such a different sadly perspective.

was about Fame and in particular losing Fame and just how illusory it is and what nonsense it is, but the pain and losing it and what that taught her, right? It's like post being a huge star and what that's been like.

And then I talk about why I decided to absorb that, why I thought they were right. I was wrong.

And I talk about that in the book, fame, the one you're talking about, but then I started thinking about like for, for, for the new book face, why, why do we even, why does society even have this position?

And it's a testament to my father's pretty extraordinary library. He accumulated about 15,000 books that filled every spare inch of our kind of small house in New Jersey growing up.
