Originally a book which was published in 1959 and the Frank Sinatra film is like 1963 or something so it's very quick afterwards and essentially Frank Sinatra and all of his mates were at war and they come back and Frank Sinatra keeps having this really weird dream and I think it's really well done because it's like you know when you're in a dream and there's a person but they're in the wrong place and they capture that so well.

So long story short it's not a spoiler the film is 100 million years old. It is revealed that one of Frank Sinatra's mates has been brainwashed to be an assassin and he's not in control of himself and he's triggered by the Queen of Diamonds.

So that's what a Manchurian candidate is, is a assassin that you are in complete control of but they don't know and they will have no memory of what they have done.

I was reading something the other day that Marvin Gaye got in trouble for reading, I think, Charlotte's Web because it was considered to be a book of the devil, which is just insanity.

And I understand what I understand now because of my brother who is an engineer, and also because of a book by Andrew Leatherbarrow called Chernobyl 012340.

Andrew Leatherbarrow is not a physicist, he's not an engineer, but he was a consultant on the HBO show and is now most people's go-to expert on Chernobyl.

And what I love about him the most, and his book, is that it all started out as a hobby.

So Andrew went on a quest to understand.

And Chernobyl now being Ukraine, but then the USSR, made that quite complicated.

There's um one of the major sources I looked at for this episode was a book that Sarah wrote and she says one tip got phoned in of some lady on a motorway in a services saying that she saw a little blonde girl in the toilet on her own and she asked the girl what her name was and the girl said her name was Sarah and Sarah was like I knew immediately it wasn't my Sarah because she always introduced herself as Sarah Payne.

In her book Sarah writes that the only thing that kept her going in the miserable months after Sarah's funeral was how she was going to stop this from happening to anyone else.

She also wrote a book called The Wind in My Hair which I haven't read yet but it is on the list.

Robin Bowles, the author of Dead Centre which is a book focused entirely on the Peter Falcone case, actually spent 60 hours interviewing Murdoch for that book and actually a little bit of a plug here we did an interview with Robin Bowles last week that we're going to be releasing today if you're listening on the day of release on Patreon for $10 and up and people if you want to check that out it was a really interesting chat.

The book was a huge critical and commercial success and was assumed to be the definitive guide to Pamela Werner's death.

So he wrote his own book much to the delight of his wife I'm sure.

What Ginger Strand says in her book is she actually relieves Saruti's everywhere by asserting that hitchhiking is not actually as dangerous as we think it is.

According to Ginger, we've never actually had any good evidence that hitchhiking is a particularly dangerous thing to do.

It turns out that hitchhikers are not actually overrepresented in any crime statistics that you might come across.

I think what she's basically saying is like at the time of abduction and murder, you're no more likely to be hitchhiking than doing quite a lot of other things, contrary to popular belief.

He had Bexie Cameron on who grew up in The Children of God and left and now she has a book and a documentary series called Cult Following and she said she was an Ibiza and Cool Breeze came on and she was just like fuck off.

And in sex cult none, I think that I read that, you know, and he was so desperate. He was such a patriot that even though he could have got out of it, he signed up.

So like one of the, I think it's there's one called sex cult none.

And now, Rob has also written a fascinating book telling his side of the story. It's called Married to the Black Widow. And we highly recommend that you all go and read it, because it is quite honestly unbelievable.

They landed well with the public and his book actually became a national bestseller.

And she also talks and this is just so jarring to listen to her She talks about how it's such a strange coincidence that this all happened to someone who's such a big fan of Elizabeth Smart's book

Elizabeth Smart is of course the 14 year old girl who was abducted in 2005 from her home in Salt Lake City

She was held captive for nine months by a man named Brian Mitchell and his wife Wanda Barzi

Elizabeth was eventually rescued and has gone on to become a highly regarded child safety activist in the US

Sherry makes such a big thing in these interviews about like oh my god like I'm such a big fan of true crime and this happened to me Isn't that wild and I'm like No Sherry

and this has of course led many including the police to speculate whether Maura was planning on killing herself but her family rejected this from the very start.
