I feel like for years, there's been a lot of reporting about what's going on inside of Facebook, but it's sometimes hard to figure out the difference between the company's positive spin, some of the kind of worst possible readings on their decisions. And then the reality of what goes on inside of a company of just human beings, sometimes being malevolent, sometimes being incompetent.

It is a great read and I found really helpful to understanding this incredibly important powerful company that seems unwilling to recognize how important and powerful it really is.

I wrote this book for so many reasons.

Your listeners can probably tell by my accent that I'm not from the United States, but I have become in my heart more American than Kenny Powers.

They were like clues of this land that I felt I was, America, even though I'd never set foot there.

It's the words of Langston Hughes, let America be America again, the land that never has been yet and yet must be.

This is why I wanted to write this book about a love, a nuanced love of America.

I came out and tweeted a photo of myself with a naturalization certificate and it was the most joyous day of my life and immediately there was, you know, I must say the majority of people joyous, just welcoming, just elated.

And I think the book is a beautiful antidote to some of that trauma and in particular, the scene where you become a citizen and all the people around you and applauding for each other and the diversity in the room.

The people coming across the border are cartels and gangs and smugglers and human traffickers.

When you talk about a dystopian hellscape, the thing that comes to mind for me is what I saw with my own eyes, the separation of 5,500 children deliberately by Donald Trump and his administration as a matter of deterrence in order to scare people away from coming to this country.

Physicians for Human Rights called it torture. They won a Nobel Peace Prize. The American Academy of Pediatrics called it government-sanctioned child abuse.

And that is a policy that was uniquely Trumpian. It had never been done before. It has not been done since.
