It's a defining moment for our country and the world and I have a very acute sense of history, my own role in it but more importantly the choices we're making now and I want to lift up other people, particularly other women as I write about in the book who at both come before our act of now and those who will come later.

I tell the story, you know, in the book of learning about the conviction I was actually in the last stages of editing this book and exchanging, you know, pages with my uh colleagues who were working with me and I put my phone down and turned it off because I just literally had to get these pages done and then when I finished I picked it up to see what was going on in the world saw the convictions and I got terrified because you know.

In the book, in a chapter called White Scarves, I detail the effort that I, an wonderful network predominantly women in our country, but also countries around the world undertook to evacuate and save these women.

I knew it was going to happen. So I knew that we had to be prepared to move quickly and we began to acquire email addresses and cell phones and what's app and signal contacts for as many women on the list as we could.

Clearly stuff was going on in that lab that was coming close to the line but whether the jump actually took place there or not, I think it's I don't know but I think it's probably the less likely alternative for all sorts of reasons.

In the book you call for banning religious exemptions for vaccinations completely.

It's called Playing with Myself, which is I wish I have a book coming out.

He puts himself before country, before the American people. I don't think he has any respect for the Constitution, our institutions, our norms and behaviors. And I've caught him a threat to democracy.

How I define myself, I define myself as Caster and I'm a woman.

Other people's opinion of me is their business, not mine.

The things I did not know about my body I found out along with the rest of the world that I did not have a uterus or fallopian tubes. Newspapers reported I had undescended testicles that were the source of my higher than normal levels of testosterone. They went on to call me a hermaphrodite in my culture, the term does not apply to people like me. But the world media forced a label on me and that is what I'm called to this day.

Yet they thought nothing of cheering on the seeming inevitability of wins by genetically gifted athletes like the sprinter, Usain Bolt, who boasted a stride that's far longer than his peers. No one suggested Michael Phelps's dominance in the pool was unfair and he should have to take medications to ensure that he produced just as much lactic acid as his competitors or have surgery to fix his hypermobile joints.

He was producing liberal wish fulfillment. He was saying this is the end of Fox News. Fox News is dying.

I think it's in my opinion a really good telling of that first year at Facebook.

There's a wonderful book called A Pattern Language it was a group of architects and they spent about a decade studying our built environments to look for design patterns that seem to correlate with human flourishing it's like a a design guide with a set of a couple hundred patterns so one of them is called the intimacy gradient and the reason I mentioned this is it's a way that we think about taking lessons from the physical environment where we're structuring how we live and interact and how we can bring that into the the world of networks

I would venture that he made it to a chapter in your book called People I Like.

He didn't, but he is someone I like.

In 2018, you wrote, I worry however the enthusiasm for AI is preventing us from reckoning with its looming effects on society.

Despite its name, there's nothing artificial about this technology. It was made by humans intended to behave like humans and affect humans. So we want to play a positive role and tomorrow's road it must be guided by human concerns.

One of my current biggest concern is the extreme imbalance asymmetry of lack of public sector investment in this technology.

In 2015, I was still a nonprofit. What do you think of their decision to move to a capped profit model?

I don't remember. I actually can't tell Larry and Sergey apart anymore. Anyway, but you write that you don't disagree with that quote. The future of AI would be written by those with corporate resources.

He has a memoir out talking about it called Renegade Defending Democracy and Liberty in Our Divided Country.

It's called Renegade on Halloween. That's correct.

The definition is the person who deserts or betrays an organization, country or set of principles. It's not a nice word.

So explain what you think a Renegade is.

I spent a lot of time in the book called Renegade, by the way.

There's so many very wealthy people out there in this world and it's more about what you do with your money and how you live your life.

It's wonderful to have the money, but yet there's a negative and a positive to it.

I see myself in various ways. I can think of myself as an entrepreneur, but I also see myself as a teacher, a mentor, a leader, a person that's really reaching out. I call it the double bottom line into the community to really lift up other people. And that's how I use my money.

I want to make sure that I keep my value system intact with my company. And it's more of, got to find the right word, is the intimacy that is my guests enter any one of my hotels, they can feel the salamander quality.
