In certain photographs, she appears not only plain, but garishly ugly, bearing her crooked teeth for the camera like a piece of vermin.

The entire premise of the show is that a hot jock falls in love with a person who doesn't fit traditional standards of beauty, and he's embarrassed because of it, so if she's cast to be an incredibly beautiful, rich person, it doesn't make any sense.
