Breakfast of Champions A Novel

I've been looking at the bookcase behind him. So I guess something's wrong with me. Always go to the books, you know, like oh. He's got Vonnegut. He's got breakfast of champions, I wonder if he has that in another room.

I would start Breakfast of Champions with Vonnegut or maybe Player Piano.

Cat's Cradle. You can't go wrong.

But then I became a voracious reader of Vonnegut. I read every single one of his novels. I read his collection of short stories that I think was published in the 50s called Welcome to the Monkey House.

I would not only consult with a book that I've mentioned before, Adventures in the Screen Trade by William Goldman, but also would turn to sometimes Breakfast of Champions or Slaughterhouse-Five and just read a passage or two.

Just as an example, this is from Breakfast of Champions. This is how Kurt Vonnegut talks about political assassination and about hijacking. Sometimes people would put holes in famous people so they could be at least fairly famous too. Sometimes people would get on airplanes which were supposed to fly to some place and they would offer to put holes in the pilot and co-pilot unless they flew the airplane to someplace else.

I'm actually reading that passage from my own paperback edition of Breakfast of Champions that I purchased way back in high school.

It's pretty dog-eared.

So I think it's appropriate from time to time when all sorts of nutty things are going on in the country to go back to novels maybe we loved when we were young and maybe should reread.
