Lone Survivor The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 (Thorndike Nonfiction)

Lone Survivor. Amazing book, I should say. I really enjoyed the book. The movie does, I think, a pretty good job of extracting some of the key moments from the book. But more than a movie or a book, it's a true story.

What that brief consisted of was, one, he read Marcus Luttrell's after-action reports on what happened that day.

And in the case of Lone Survivor, like right from the get go, when I met Marcus Luttrell ... I read the book quickly.

But I think about him. Get get up. You put your hand over your heart and you sing because the United States of America produced a man like that, along with his twin brother. And they're out there serving us still in different ways. That's why you put your hand over your heart and you sing the national anthem.

And it's not every day you get to spend an hour and a half with two guys like this in any time of your life. This was a true honor for me. I hope you enjoy it.

I mean, obviously, that's what the whole book and the movie about you is about, Marcus and Morgan.

And that would change Marcus's and Morgan's life forever.

I have read your book. I have watched your movie. I've listened to so many interviews you've given speeches you've given and just, I mean, I know we've spoken before you came on the Kelly file for, um, back in 2014 Marcus, but just hearing you talk like this, and it just explains so much, both of you guys, um, about what happened in operation red wings and how you managed to make it through that and how you've managed to find some joy in your life, not withstanding that awful experience and what you witnessed in the loss of your friends.

It was in Afghanistan. It was June, 2005.

I don't, I never like to get too dark because it's just, there's only so much our souls can take in. But suffice it to say the Taliban and his accounts of dealing with them while fighting for the U S in Afghanistan, the Taliban engaged in this systematic torture and rape of young children, boys and girls.

And they made a movie about him starring Mark Wahlberg.

He's the lone survivor, as you know.

What makes a Navy SEAL? What makes an American? What are the values that we share, that bring us together as a nation?

What were the values that made him willing to die for his country when he got caught on that Afghanistan hill years ago with his brothers who were all killed, leaving him, quote, the lone survivor.

And we're getting ready for Marcus Luttrell next week. And his book came out in 2007.

I think that the culture really needs to begin ... like Lone Survivor, which shows the grit and trauma of a Navy SEAL.

I don't know if you ... the Lone Survivor book and movie were made about it.

I would say Lone Survivor because my initial thought there was if you want to know what a gunfight in the mountains of Afghanistan looks like, that would be it. And what it feels like to have something shoot past you or slam next to you and just be like, where did that come from?

My only complaint about Lone Survivor was the mountains weren't steep enough.
