Going Clear Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief

I read that Going Clear book. Every once in a while, you know, like you read like one sentence and it like snaps your whole perspective into place a little bit. And I remember reading that book about Scientology and there was just one sentence in it about how famous people tend to do a thing where if they aren't treated in a certain way, it makes them think they're not as talented as they wish they were.

Yeah it's Lawrence Wright's book, okay, Going Clear. Yeah, the book is even more bizarre because he gets obviously like way more in the depth about how crazy L. Ron Hubbard was and what he essentially did and how he started this whole thing and he's he was self-analyzing he was trying to heal himself because he was fucking crazy right, and along the way got really into psychology and self-help books then was quoted saying if you want to make real money you start a religion.

Did you watch the HBO series on it, the documentary? Yeah, The Going Clear.

Unbelievable. That's the best documentary on it.

All these things are happening and now Alia is coming in and Alia was... I knew her, I mean, I'm friends with Kevin James from the King and Queen so I've known Alia for 20 plus years. And when I first met her, she was just like this hard ass, beautiful woman who's just like driven and like, she's a Scientologist.

Have you guys read Lawrence Wright's book about it? I don't think so. It's called Going Clear.

I saw the guy who wrote the book come speak. Oh really? That guy. Alex something. I don't remember his name, but like, I mean, how, whatever you think of his book or his journalism, that guy had brass ones.

He's the one who did it. He's the one who went after Scientology when no one else would touch it.

And apparently 5 million lawyers read that book before it was ever published.

Yeah. And this is after it had already been vetted by all of the lawyers in the book publishing world.

It's good. Yeah. Great book.

I think that Lawrence Wright uh when he titled his book Going Clear Scientology in the Prison of Belief was so prescient that the prison is a mind prison and you don't need walls and barbed wire to keep people in a mind prison

you hooked us up with an excellent book that uh you lent me earlier right? Yes going clear and I already forgot the author but it's fantastic.

It looks at it from an investigative reporter angle on all these different angles and the the author allowed Scientology to go in and make footnotes and comment on the entire book.

the book itself is on the up and up. It's a great piece of journalism. It does not address this theory. It's more about the evolution of society but it does show the change of the church in Scientology when David Miscavige took over.
