I started to really just have primarily individuals, couples, or even polycules that were non-monogamous. And I would see the challenges they were going through. And one of the main challenges was attachment insecurity or attachment ruptures that were happening. And so I was like, okay, this is what they're bringing to me. And then when I would share with them what attachment styles are and how we can work to become more secure, it made such a difference.

Ingrid's memoir The Man Who Could Move Clouds was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

I think that I was able to do so much thinking around what memory means and what having a self means.

I had been corrected years and years before when I had first tried to write that story and I had abandoned it feeling like maybe I'm wrong like maybe I don't know what's real and what's not real.

Growing up, my aunts and uncles would always tell me stories about you know I saw your grandfather move clouds and this is what it looked like.

The feedback that I got was oh this is fiction this is not something that actually happened. There's like a colonialist mindset in the United States of thinking only our culture is correct or only our culture is the truth and everything else that deviates from that is made up or it's fiction.

Episode: 258: What if you fell in love with a vampire?

The character Dennis, from the book, was introduced to Michael online, and he started an online relationship with Dennis, eventually believing Dennis was a real vampire.

"

And in particular, I connected to the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

Vampires are magical creatures who are above the rest of the world. They were free. They were free to kill people. They were free to fuck people. They were free to do whatever. There was male and female relationships. There was female-female relationships. There was male-male relationships.

There was poly relationships. There were all these things and all these different ways to love that I had never even thought of, that I never thought were possible. And they didn't feel guilty about it. And they only found acceptance.

And that's really what I connected with in the books was that there was this sense of freedom and acceptance in the monstrous. I felt that I was monstrous. I had been told my whole life that I was horrible, that I was ugly, that I was horrible. I was unlovable.

Then in these books, they're monstrous, but they're loved and they're magical and they don't care what God has to say about them. They took the darkness and they made it magical.
