So the term Outside the Wire is how we referred to going off the base in Afghanistan. It's how folks in the army refer to that and I named it that because while the book is about those experiences for me what it's about in much larger amount is going Outside the Wire figuratively in politics.
It's ten lessons that I've learned and it's the stories as to how I've learned those lessons many of the stories are embarrassing for me personally but they allow people to read them and then maybe not repeat those mistakes.
It's just about the fact that you can do this without losing yourself you can do this and you can go Outside the Wire politically figuratively really and and have it work out just be a good person at the same time be effective in politics that can work.
My belief that doing what's right and just trying to be a good person it turns out is actually the best politics because voters can see through anything else.

Well, most of my books are 20 letters or they're short books.
We bought a house in Concord and while I've studied the Constitution for a long time, hadn't really thought about the American Revolution and I'm kind of surrounded by artifacts of the revolution and that made me think, well, what was Impeachment about?
If you read the Declaration of Independence, it's completely like articles of Impeachment and if you look at the history in the 18th century, it's two ideas are on fire in our little country, one is self-government and the other is the equal dignity of human beings and I think we've missed that slice, the slice between Paul Revere's ride and when the Constitution got ratified and kind of the best window onto it is Impeachment.
I think it gives you really a sense of what American exceptionalism is and that's what got me into Impeachment.
