You can hear Helaman talking to Nephi and Lehi and to see cornerstone and foundation.

He's thinking about covenant and Christ and Isaiah.

And that is what Helaman was saying. If a prophet comes among you and says this, it says, do whatever your heart desires.

The tower is actually mentioned in several places in the book of Mormon, the book of Omni, Mosiah, Helaman, Ether many times.

This lesson is on the book of Ruth and the first three chapters of 1 Samuel.

Well, Elder Groberg tells a wonderful story, a book he wrote called Refuge in Reality about being the Idaho Falls Temple President and hearing people as they're leaving the temple, breathing a sigh and saying, well, back to the real world.

And he said, I knew what they meant, but something about that bothered me. And over time, somebody again, oh, back to the real world. And he came out of his office and he said, wrong. You are leaving the real world. Only that which is permanent is real.

he wrote this book called Refuge in Reality and he tells this story and all paraphrases best I can but when he was president of the Idaho Falls temple he said he used to hear people leaving the temple and kind of sying and saying back to the real world and he said I knew what they meant but it kind of bothered me something about that phrase bothered me and I'd hear it again now go back to the real world and he said one time I heard somebody say that I've won up to the front door and I said wrong only that which is permanent is real what happened in here today is permanent and that is real that world out there is temporary that world is going to end this is the real world come back soon to the real world they said okay thanks president and I thought oh what a wonderful way to look at it this is the real world this is the eternal world that's going to last and that world out there that's the temporary one that we're having so many ups and downs in.

The book is called Exploring the Apocrypha from a Latter-day Saint Perspective. So I try to just give a basic intro to each of the books in the common list of books in the Apocrypha.

She's the author of the book Covenant of Compassion published by the Religious Studies Center and has a chapter in there about Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz, which we will be talking about today.

I think your book Covenant Hearts, the marriage book that... Was it you Elder Hafen that talked about the difference between a contract marriage where each party gives 100% and a covenant marriage where God is part of the covenant?

I'm going to mention Faith Is Not Blind because I think that is exactly the context for the book.

The rest of that story, which is in Faith Is Not Blind because it's an unforgettable story for me.

This book has been a real blessing to me in my Book of Mormon and New Testament classes, some of the insights that are there.

Very rarely, John, do they have the entire religion faculty at BYU read a book, but they did on that one.

I think one of the greatest insights in here that's blessed me and hopefully my students, we all know the Moroni's promise of verse 4, but verse 3 is, ponder how merciful God has been since the creation of Adam down until this time, and ponder it in your hearts. Let this fill you with gratitude, and this idea that gratitude is the gateway to revelation was a beautiful thought to me.

Yeah. And I think, Matt, you just changed that primary song for me. Because if you liken the way to the atonement of Christ, here's our primary children singing, I know the Lord provides a way. They're singing about the atonement there, this way through. It's a deliverance, yeah. Yeah. I just had never connected that to the Savior's atonement before. It's just in the song. I hear it from my own kids and I've always just thought of Nephi, but then take it from Nephi to Isaiah and Isaiah is saying, yeah, this is a symbol of the Lord providing a way for our return back to him.

He had this book, Mafia to Mormon.

He said, I walk into some 10 year old boys in my class. He says, boys, I'm supposed to imagine the tenderness here, the humility. I'm supposed to be your teacher, but boys, I can't read. And the boys said, we'll help you.

And he said, those 10 year old boys read me the lesson manual. And those boys taught me the gospel, not just by what they read, but by how they treated him, I think.

That book, Don't Leap With the Sheep, just gave me a new way to try to teach what the Scriptures teach. Really grateful for that.

I love one called Don't Leap With the Sheep. I love the way brother Wilcox just doesn't teach the scriptures, but teaches what the scriptures teach and he is helped me so much.

I've got a couple of books of his on my shelf one that long before I really met Steve personally, I read Joseph Smith's first vision where he talks about all the different the different accounts.

I think it's called Joseph Smith's first vision and that was great because he went through all of the different, different accounts and spoke about each one of them.

Now Dr Bennett you wrote something that kind of continues the story from these other books recently with Desirette Book, is it Temple's Rising can you tell us about that?

Joseph Fesmith talks about that in Gospel Doctrine, page 173.

there's a great book called Remembering Joseph by Mark McConkey and I've always wondered why anyone would want to learn about if you want to really learn about Joseph Smith here go to his friends I mean who knows you best your friends or your enemies who knows you best go to those who know him best his family and his friends.

It's a wonderful book um great book and it's that's usually the first book I hand people to read about Joseph Smith yeah because it's all first hand experiences um really good stuff

It's as it says in Messiah 319, submitting to the Lord's plan without rebellion.

In Galatians chapter one, he says, You have heard of my conversation in times past in the Jews' religion, how beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, wasted it, and profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous than the traditions of my fathers.

When I was a new seminary teacher, a wonderful talk was published called Weed Your Brain, Grow Your Testimony by John Bytheway.

Still one of my favorite talks of all time.

It really is a life changing talk, John.

I feel like I learned more lessons thinking about these agricultural stories and parables in the scriptures than I would have just reading them over and over again.
