You talk about watching the insurrection unfold with horror. You say democracy is hanging by a thread.

So the question is, how do you try to break up this polarization us versus them dynamic in as fast a time period as you can?

I'm going to be endorsing candidates who are going to be running as Democrats, as Republicans, as independents.

Over the past few days, I have consumed an enormous amount of Yang content. The book, the interviews, the podcasts.

But the trust and relationship in media varies widely between parties where 69% of Democrats trust the media, only 15% of Republicans do. So the question is, how do you try to break up this polarization us versus them dynamic in as fast a time period as you can.

And I talk about this in the book, which you clearly have read through.

You read my book. So, you know, I'm for universal health care, universal basic income, like improving these measurements that we're talking about right now.

And part of the insight I gained really is that, again, we're not really having policy disagreements, it turns out like we're just being tribalized and having these these contests, you know, and these are contests that eventually are going to lead us nowhere, lead us to very nasty direction.

They did not want you to include any of what you call your shadow side, which was really just all the real stuff in the book because they thought that would tarnish your Captain America reputation.

But the first thing you said to me was, you probably know what's going on because you had just gotten the DUI.

It's a seemingly normal event I have to go do. I'm just about to publish forward the memoir that I wrote soon after I retired and I'm traveling with a manager kind of person.

They did not want you to include any of what you call your shadow side, which was really just all the real stuff in the book because they thought that would tarnish your Captain America reputation.

And when you touched me, you said, sweetheart, oh, sweetheart, we in the real world like real people.

I wrote this book in 2020 late at night like reflecting on my journey and what I had experienced and what I thought the real problems were and in that process I learned a lot and I read books by Jonathan Haidt and Lawrence Lessig and Ezra Klein and Catherine Gale and Michael Porter and all of these other books because I was trying to put my finger on something that had been nagging at me through the process.

I do write a chapter about this but I think the biggest problem is when someone shows up in DC and even if you're raring to go and you want to change things you're looking at a seniority system and people who've been there for 20 25 30 years who are in power and so the natural approach you're going to end up with is to bite your time and to be there for a while and say yeah you know it'll be my time eventually.

Corruptive systems overcome good individuals with ease and and that's what we're seeing over and over again and we're wondering why it's now working.

I now think that full word and this diagnosis of our problems in our democracy just to let you all know that you're not crazy what's crazy is to look at our system and think it should be working like it's set up not to work.

I thought to myself this could be my greatest contribution ever and I would die happy like you know if I managed to advance the understanding of the automation of our economy and universal basic income and that is my legacy you can put that on my epitaph and that is a okay with me.
