Modern Wisdom
The book talks about resilience as suffering strategically managed, meaning that rather than simply gritting your teeth, you should take steps to mitigate your suffering. It was illustrated by an example of taking a pebble out of your shoe while running.

What I mean by that is, so often I think people think in terms of gritting your teeth, manning up. For me, it just wasn't quite right to say that. That's not an approach that I found works. It's like me and you go for a run right now. If we're 5k into the run and we're going to run a marathon, you turn to me and say, Ross, I've got a pebble in my shoe. I won't go, resilience, man up, run with it and wear it down. No, I'll be like, just let's stop and take the pebble out, Chris.
It's suffering strategically managed.
If I was to add a chapter to the Art of Resilience, it would probably be that story.
