There are books that we read that we both found very moving. Books on dying and death and on facing death. Especially a book called The Five Invitations by an American Buddhist monk, Frank Ostoweski.
He ran a hospice, a Zen Buddhist hospice in San Francisco at the height of the AIDS epidemic. He writes so movingly about how these people faced the awful ordeal of dying. I recommend it to anybody who's got a friend with a serious illness. It really changed our lives.
