Human beings are a unique species. The primary way in which we are unique is that if you think about the question about, well, what do human beings do?

So we are unlike any other species because our niche is the movement between niches, both over time and across space.

So I want to make sure I fully understand this as if a 10-year-old would understand it is we have kind of two modes.

We have what we had passed to us and because of consciousness and language and our ability to communicate, we have what we're discovering now about the nature of the world.

Together, that's what makes humans so special. And really what ties that all together is language and the ability to communicate.

Values might not be [scientifically] defensible. Taken to the extreme, it might be hard to explain why existing is better than not

We believe that any credible 'ought' needs to be scientifically informed

The amazing rate of change we've created is itself deranging us and making it very difficult to understand and remember how to be human

It's not that progress is bad - the benefit of progress is often tremendous, but it almost always comes with important unintended consequences

Children will destroy your life and replace it with a better one
