Flipping Boxcars A Novel

Now he has a new novel, Flipping Boxcars, available September 12th.

It's a book of fiction.

It takes place in 1948.

And it really feels like, you know, this world, you really know these people and the language.

So this is the story, uh, about loosely based on my grandfather who I'd never met.

I was, you know, really hearing stories about my grandfather, but you know, he had passed before I was even born.

So, you know, like we don't hear things about our relatives and then you start to get the lore of the family story and that's what I did.

he was these were real things, you know, that I hear from my mother and my uncles that you know, he was a businessman, you know, he was like a, you know, the the de facto mayor of the black side of town this little small town and then, you know, but at night he was a bootlegger and a gambler and a hustler and he always being creative.

I love this book. I love the process. I love telling people, you know about it.

the characters are rich is interesting.

You got the flipping box cars book out, man. And I love that you flexing different creative muscles, writing fiction novels.

So that's the boxcar trains. And then he does the dice with the two sixes as a boxcar too. So that's why he flipping boxcars.

The fact that yeah, I'm a family man and I'm trying to do all of this for my family, but I gotta go out there and get it by any means necessary sometimes.

So he gets caught up in a caper, or like a crime caper where he's got to take this bootlegged liquor from a train, so that's the boxcar trains and then he does the dice with the two sixes, there's a boxcar too, so that's why he's flipping boxcars.

The most important thing about the book, right? The dynamic, because that is the Black struggle in a lot of ways, the fact that, yeah, I'm a family man and I'm trying to do all of this for my family, but I gotta go out there and get it by any means necessary sometimes.

I liken it to Walter Mosley, there's, you know, the Easy Rawlins characters, the Devil in the Blue Dress, I love that world and that's what we, you know, I just kind of try to emulate that feel.

It is the experiment of looking at what's your chances to actually accomplish what this goal that you that you want, right? And it's, it's, it's a stroke of luck, but you know, people love to play those, those angles, the numbers, the chances and they bet against themselves, against the others, they bet against the table at times.

Yeah, man, which I don't know people saw that one coming. It's called the flipping boxcars.

It's a thriller and a period piece to work that come out of have you been doing it was inside it was inside.
