And honestly, the thing about it is that there are some folks who are very engaged and who have made Twitters and they have their Facebook groups and they do pay attention to what's they feel that kind of excitement and that widespread sense of solidarity. But one thing that's important to remember, especially for workers who are already disadvantaged or they're dealing with low wage laborers, like it's really hard to go on strike. Like there's a lot of shit they have to figure out.

And you came into this, I think unlike a lot of the people who are actually striking, you came into this with a lifelong history of interest in kind of labor justice movements and whatnot which I don't think most people who are in unions necessarily spend a ton of time studying the last hundred years of labor relations. What has surprised you? Like what has like been a new realization that you've gotten since you started covering this stuff on the ground in this most recent period?

I had a really good podcast with Stephen Greenhouse from the New York- former New York Times reporters written a book about American labor.

I wanted to write this book because I wanted to read it as a big labor nerd and a labor reporter.

Like this is the kind of book that I've kind of always been looking for because I'm always interested in reading about the people who have been pushed to the margins, who aren't getting the headlines, who aren't as easily accessible as the Cesar Chavez's and a triangle shirt waste factory stories of the world.

And I wanted specifically with this book to pull together a bunch of different people and events and eras and present that in a way that shows today's workers that whatever your identity is, wherever you come from, whoever you are, you're not alone.

Someone just like you has done something really incredible in the past or is doing it right now. Like you belong, the labor movement belongs to you too.

Someone just like you has done something really incredible in the past or is doing it right now. Like you belong, the labor movement belongs to you too.

There's one story about this one woman in Ohio that I love so much. Her name is Ida May Stoll. She was the first white woman coal miner who really loved her job. She was a part owner in a mine. She was from a mining family. She was really good at it. She was apparently pretty brawlic and she was told by mine inspectors like, oh you can't work here. You need to get back in the kitchen. Women aren't allowed to do heavy labor and she was not about to have that and she fought back in the courts and she got her job back.

She's also working on a book called Fight Like Hell, the Untold History of American Labor and has been all over this strike from the very beginning.

They're offering up themselves just like the Civil Rights Movement, just like Gandhi, just like Moses, just like Jesus.

Ain't nobody gonna turn us around. Ain't no BlackRock gonna turn us around. Ain't no Warwick gonna turn us around. Ain't no judge gonna turn us around. Ain't no injection gonna turn us around. Ain't no jailhouse gonna turn us around.

United we stand divided we fall.

And as Dr. King says someday, we'll all be able to say free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we're free at last. God bless all of you.

One thing that stands out to me is that this is all really exciting and incredible and wonderful. And I'm so excited people are talking about it.
