Brenda Lee it is so nice to have you in here I see you driving around town sometimes and I'm and I always kind of geek out I'm like there's Brenda Lee.

So correct me if I'm wrong here but the song that every Christmas is played all the time over and over again you sing that when you were six years old is that right?

I do I remember the players that played on it I'll never forget I was sitting at home in the phone ring and I answered it and it was one of my friends and she said Brenda did you know that your song is all over the movie Home Alone.

It says here that it was recorded in 1958 I guess I just assumed that it had always been a massive Christmas hit because in our life it mostly has been because Home Alone came out when we were young early 90s yeah and and it was played but it wasn't like nobody went crazy over it you know but it's a good song it was written by Johnny Marx.

Yeah it was and that was really the catalyst that pushed it to where it went.

It's based on a book and the book was nonfiction.

Some of the characters have been dramatized meaning they're getting as close as they possibly can. They just don't want to get sued.

It's too much talking. I don't like dialogue.

I absolutely think it's a spiritual crisis

something has changed so drastically and we are witnessing what I believe is the destruction of our society it is a spiritual a spiritual calamity

if I can't play music and peace then I'm going to play music in war

getting your feelings hurt was just called going to school

She wrote the script for this movie based on the book written by Priscilla Presley who Priscilla is also an executive producer on this movie.

But what this movie helped me understand is what it's like to be married to somebody who is that big of an icon and that big of a presence to be with somebody who is not only famous but gets everything that they want, has all the money to do anything they could ever imagine.

And in the book she says that their relationship was strictly that.

And again, I don't think it was set out to villainize Elvis or tarnish his image. I just think it was telling her side of the story and based on her own words, based on everything that she put in that book and I think it's very powerful.

I know he wrote Rocky and that's kind of how he got a start. It's kind of all it does. Talks a lot about Rocky.

There's a little bit about his upbringing and kind of how he's got to Hollywood and all that, but not a lot on that, but then it's mostly how he decided to write Rocky, why he wrote Rocky, and then why he wrote Rocky II and the next thing you know it's Rocky VI. All that. It's a lot of Rocky.

And then I saw an article about how they talked about his son. Like I said son died back in like 2000, I don't know. Something, son died and I read an article where like he finally reveals like it talks about that. Never really talks about that.

is Pearl in the book named after Jake Ellin's daughter?

Yesterday I went and read that book to Paris, Jake's daughter's school.

I don't know that Pearl was like directly, but probably... I was just trying to think of a name that was for a cat.

I liked it a lot. I liked it more than Elvis.

I was way moved by her story than I was with Elvis.

Oh so she had some stuff to say? Yeah, it's her side of the story.

So it's not somebody just like monetizing off of, I mean their weird love story.

It's her perspective but it's more of how he was like behind closed doors. What he was like at home when he got home to Graceland and now he treated her and how he treated the people around him.

the Tailgate and Tanlines record is still one of my favorites, of his and favorite.

I've been reading an Amelia Earhart book with my son.

it's the it's the title of the book sit in what resonates with you i think we can all have a very beautiful life and be vessels for other people if we would just do what makes us take in our homes and our lives and everywhere

this one is like what is cozy to you this is an inner a little more inner work yeah and it's an interactive book you can write in it there are places to journal and write there are places to write a letter to your past self and we ask some hard questions in it

it's like um you know we're asking these questions of like what don't you like about your home and what don't you like about your life right now like what would you change and it's like that's kind of hard to ask you know because it's usually like rainbows and butterflies like you know when we hear that or block it or let's like look at it like let's not yeah or you're not allowed to complain about things like you should be thankful you can be grateful for your life and still want to change things like you can be grateful for your home and still want to change things

this book has um checklist monthly checklist of how to keep your house maintained and cozy like you know like the ugly things like changing out filters and um but it's very it's a very interactive book another thing that's different about it is there are a lot of um photographs that we took still like the other books but also um illustrations and i think that's really fun because i wanted you to be able to picture yourself in this book like this is about you this is you um finding what makes you take in um what cozy is to you

So we'll get to that and we'll talk to Rob Harvilla from the podcast 60 Songs That Explain the 90s.

And so how do you do a book on this? Because the book is out November 14th. You can pre-order now. You can get a signed book plate still as of we're recording this right now. But what's- what in the heck is the book? Like what's in it?

What I love about the book, you know, it's based on the scripts that I record for the episodes. Like I write these episodes out, you know, down to the word. And so I have a lot of source material.

Are there pictures in the book though? There are illustrations. There are awesome illustrations by an illustrator named Tara Jacoby.

New album, Ain't My Last Rodeo. It is out now and the title track is inspired by your grandpa.

Well, Gunna Dubuford passed away in 2010 and he spent a lot of time in the hospital. Kind of was in rough shape for a long time and amongst that going to visit him he said that. He said this Ain't My Last Rodeo.

I just, I thought that was a really positive message and you know a tough time and I think it's something that I think people who's been through that with a loved one whoever it is can count on it.

Like y'all's album, E-Main, Rufus and B. I mean driving life lessons home for children. It's truly can like impact so quickly and effectively.

And they're really like these books our first book will come out in the spring and you know every song on the album pairs with a book.

Four years ago I had my daughter and at that point in time I did struggle with alcohol a little bit and so I wanted to change my life and I read his books Fail and TO YOU Bel.
