The child is to be fed, bathed and dried off. Apart from that, left completely alone.

the child will quickly understand that all he needs to do is cry in order to attract a sympathetic soul and become the object of caring. Bottle feeding should never take longer than 10 minutes. Breastfeeding no longer than 20 minutes. If the child strolls or dawdles, feeding or breastfeeding should be stopped. There is no food again until the next scheduled meal. If the child is hungry by then, firstly it serves him well and secondly he learns that he will have to hurry up next time.
