Lolita Introduction by Martin Amis (Everyman's Library Contemporary Classics Series)

Lolita is a novel written by Nabokov about a guy based on a true story actually.

And that's how the book Lolita came to be.

Remember what's between the ages of 12 and 14? According to Humbert Humbert, a nymphet.

Unlike Humbert in Lolita, Frank is not well-spoken nor well educated.

And a lot of the things he passionately talks about. Well, the very next day, he's most likely going to just contradict himself like he was one of those guys.

He kept a gun around again, Lolita.

So mind you, Lolita was the manuscript for that book was burned almost twice. And Vladimir's wife is the one that stopped him. He wanted to throw it in the fire because he had writer's block.

Now, there is another book called Lolita by Vladimir Nobokov.

Now, Lolita is a very controversial book. It was incredibly famous. It's still famous to this day. It was written in 1955 by a Russian-American novelist.

This is a book that has sold over 60 million copies worldwide.

It's not about falling in love in a field. It's not about social classes. It's literally the inner thoughts of a pedophile.

There's more copies sold of Lolita than The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, Hunger Games and The Diary of Anne Frank. More copies of Lolita has been sold.

She says that her dad would read the book Lolita to her while she was being abused.

One of his last book purchases in the last three months of his life is Lolita, the annotated and revised version about a man who is obsessed with a 12yearold girl.

I think her new album is the same as the book cover of Lolita. It's about that man who was obsessed sexually with a 12 year old girl.

Is it a Lolita situation?

Yep, it is.

This is a very thinly veiled Lolita Humbert Humbert situation.

Lolita in 1962, which I do have to say, despite the premise, is a fantastic book by Nabokov.

It has one of my favorite depictions of a death scene, at least the novel.

And the first page, and there's a little bit of a spoiler, the narrator is super unreliable and a terrible person is talking about how his mother passed away. And all you learn is there's this parenthetical where it's just like picnic, comma, lightning. And then it moves on. It's one of my favorite death scenes.

He also has one of the best and most redundant names in literature, Humbert Humbert, which I enjoy quite a lot.

And this aside, like Lolita is a very controversial story. Yeah. And it's got some hugely problematic things, but Kubrick never, never hesitated, I guess, to address controversial themes like Dr. Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb, which made 1964.

Did you read Lolita by Nabokov?

You begin the book thinking this is pure evil. And at the end of the book, you're disgusted with yourself because you have spent all this time with Humbert Humbert. In his mind. And you feel some sympathy.

So I think this is a question people, I certainly asked myself when I was reading Lolita. Is there such a thing as evil? What is evil?
