In a book called White Cargo, The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slaves in America, authors Don Jordan and Michael Walsh explain that in most cases an indentured servant socalled was simply a slave by another name. The servants were bought, sold and traded like any other slave, and although their period of bondage was supposed to be temporary, they were often kept in servitude for life, many worked to death, and kids were even kidnapped and sold into servitude.
