Ryan Holiday mentioned General Mattis's book, in which he discusses how people have been fighting wars for 5000 years and how one should read about what they went through, instead of learning by trial and error.
General Mattis is a big fan of Stoicism talks about this in his book call sign chaos which is very good. He says he says like people have been fighting in wars for 5000 years he's like how would you not go read what they went through why would you learn by trial and error when you could read about the people that that went before you and he talks about, you know when when America invades Iraq and Afghanistan he's like, I've read Alexander the Great, because he fought in the same places like it's not like people haven't done this before they've been in this exact spot and made a lot of the same mistakes that if you're not careful, you will make right now.
