I had not seen it, but I do know that he was considered barking mad as they would have put it back in the day.
He had, they're not quite sure what he had. They think possibly even had a metabolic disorder called porphyria and wasn't mentally ill at all. But these were just symptoms of porphyria.
He could have also had severe mental illness, but he was confined in a straight jacket very famously by his doctor Francis Willis.
